Description
Château Potensac is one of the most respected names in Bordeaux’s Médoc, offering classically styled red wine with excellent structure and a strong sense of place. The 2023 vintage continues the estate’s long tradition of producing refined, age-worthy wine that combines Cabernet-driven freshness with Merlot’s supple charm.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2023 Château Potensac typically shows a deep ruby hue with youthful purple highlights. The nose is expected to open with dark berries, cassis, plum, and subtle floral tones, supported by cedar, graphite, and a hint of tobacco from its Bordeaux élevage.
On the palate, the wine should be medium to full-bodied, with firm but polished tannins, lively acidity, and a core of blackcurrant, blackberry, and savory spice. It is a wine built for cellaring, and while approachable with time in bottle, it should continue to gain complexity over the next 8–15 years, depending on storage conditions.
Production
Château Potensac is located in the northern Médoc, where gravelly and clay-rich soils help produce wines with freshness, balance, and structure. The estate works in a traditional Bordeaux style, with careful vineyard management and parcel selection to preserve varietal purity and terroir expression. Fermentation and ageing are carried out with an emphasis on building texture and complexity while maintaining the estate’s classic, restrained character.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, and hearty mushroom dishes, as well as aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours when young to soften the tannins and allow the aromatics to open fully.
Producer
Château Potensac has long been a benchmark producer in the Médoc and is particularly admired for its consistency and value within Bordeaux. The estate has built its reputation on producing wines of real pedigree and aging potential, with a style that reflects the region’s traditional strengths. Over time, it has earned recognition among Bordeaux enthusiasts for offering a very honest expression of classic Médoc winemaking.
