Description
The 2023 Château Olivier Pessac-Léognan Blanc is a classic Bordeaux white with real pedigree, combining freshness, texture, and the signature finesse of one of Graves’ historic estates. Known for its balance of citrus-driven brightness and subtle oak complexity, it’s a refined white wine that shows exactly why Pessac-Léognan remains one of France’s most respected white wine appellations.
Tasting Notes
Pale straw in the glass, it opens with a precise and elegant nose of white flowers, lemon zest, grapefruit, and ripe orchard fruit, layered with hints of vanilla, toasted almond, and flint. On the palate it is fresh and vibrant, with a silky mid-palate, lively acidity, and a mineral core that carries the wine through to a long, clean finish.
The 2023 vintage should be enjoyed for its youthful purity now, but it also has the structure to gain added depth and complexity with a few years in bottle. As it ages, expect greater richness, more pronounced honeyed and nutty notes, and a rounder texture.
Production
Château Olivier is situated in the gravelly soils of Pessac-Léognan, where well-drained terroir helps produce whites of aromatic precision and mineral freshness. The vineyard’s classic Bordeaux white varieties are typically harvested at optimal ripeness and vinified carefully to preserve aromatics, freshness, and balance, often with controlled fermentation and aging in oak to build texture and complexity.
Food & Serving
This wine is an excellent match for shellfish, lobster, grilled fish, roast poultry, creamy risotto, and goat’s cheese. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C, and consider brief decanting if young to help the aromas open up, though it is not essential.
Producer
Château Olivier is one of the historic estates of Bordeaux, with roots stretching back many centuries and a long-standing reputation for quality in both red and white wines. Located in the heart of Pessac-Léognan, it is recognized for producing elegant, terroir-driven wines that reflect the gravelly soils and classical style of the region.
