Description
Château Langoa Barton is one of Saint-Julien’s most respected names, offering a classically structured Bordeaux with real depth, balance and pedigree. As a Grand Cru Classé from the historic 1855 classification, the 2023 vintage captures the estate’s hallmark refinement and ageing potential in a wine that speaks clearly of its Left Bank origins.
Tasting Notes
The wine typically shows a deep ruby color with youthful violet highlights in its early years. Aromatically, expect a poised Bordeaux nose of blackcurrant, dark cherry, cedar, cigar box, graphite and subtle floral notes, supported by a discreet touch of spice and earthy nuance.
On the palate, it is usually medium to full-bodied with firm yet polished tannins, fresh acidity and a finely layered core of dark fruit. The finish tends to be long and composed, with classic Saint-Julien elegance and the structure to reward cellaring for many years.
Production
Produced in Saint-Julien on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Château Langoa Barton benefits from gravelly soils that drain well and help Cabernet Sauvignon achieve excellent ripeness and concentration. The estate’s vineyards are traditionally managed and the grapes are harvested with careful selection to preserve quality and balance. Vinification is carried out in the classic Bordeaux style, with fermentation and ageing in oak to build structure, complexity and longevity.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game birds and mushroom-based dishes. It is best served at around 16–18°C, and decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended when young to help the wine open up and show its full aromatic range.
Producer
Château Langoa Barton has been part of the Barton family’s remarkable Bordeaux legacy since the early 19th century, making it one of the region’s most enduring family-owned estates. Based in Saint-Julien, it is closely associated with traditional Médoc winemaking and is admired for producing wines of consistency, balance and classic Left Bank character. Its Grand Cru Classé status and long-standing reputation have made it a benchmark estate in the appellation.
