Description
2023 Château Duhart-Milon Pauillac Grand Cru Classé is a refined expression of one of Bordeaux’s most respected Left Bank estates, showing the class and structure Pauillac is famous for. Sourced from a historic property with a long-standing reputation for producing age-worthy wines, it offers a compelling mix of power, precision, and elegance.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, expect a deep ruby core with youthful intensity and bright purple reflections. The nose is typically layered with cassis, black cherry, cedar, graphite, violets, and subtle hints of tobacco and spice.
On the palate, the wine should be tightly framed and polished, with ripe dark fruit, fine-grained tannins, and fresh mineral drive that gives the finish length and definition. As a young Pauillac, it is already attractive for its balance, but it should reward cellar time beautifully over the next decade and beyond, developing more savory complexity with age.
Production
Château Duhart-Milon lies in the gravel-rich soils of Pauillac, where excellent drainage and the tempering influence of the nearby Gironde help preserve freshness and structure. The estate is known for careful vineyard selection and attentive harvesting, with vinification aimed at preserving purity, precision, and the signature Cabernet-based profile of the appellation.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs naturally with classic Bordeaux-style dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, or game birds, as well as mushroom-based dishes and hard aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C; decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended if enjoying it young to help open the aromas and soften the structure.
Producer
Château Duhart-Milon is a historic Pauillac estate classified as a Fourth Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, a status that underlines its long-recognized quality and importance in the region. Owned by the Rothschild family of Lafite fame, the château has earned a reputation for producing elegant, structured wines that reflect the finesse and depth of top Pauillac terroir.
