Description
Château Brane-Cantenac 2023 is a refined Margaux Grand Cru Classé that showcases the elegance and precision for which this historic estate is known. Coming from one of the Médoc’s most admired châteaux, it offers the classic balance of Cabernet-driven structure, aromatic finesse, and polished texture that makes Margaux so distinctive.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, expect a deep ruby colour with a bright, youthful core. The nose is typically expressive and layered, with notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, violet, cedar, and subtle spice, supported by a fine mineral edge.
On the palate, the wine is poised and medium to full-bodied, with silky tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, graceful finish. The 2023 vintage should reward patience, with the structure and concentration to evolve beautifully over time, gaining complexity over the next 10 to 20 years.
Production
Château Brane-Cantenac is located in the heart of Margaux, where gravel-rich soils provide excellent drainage and help Cabernet Sauvignon achieve ripeness, finesse, and aromatic lift. The estate is known for careful vineyard management and selective harvesting, ensuring only the best fruit is retained for the Grand Vin. Vinification is carried out with precision to preserve freshness, purity, and the estate’s signature elegance.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with classic Bordeaux fare such as roast lamb, duck breast, beef tenderloin, or game birds, as well as mushroom-based dishes and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the bouquet and texture to खुल fully. A little more patience will reward those cellaring it for the future.
Producer
Château Brane-Cantenac is one of the great names of Margaux, with a history dating back centuries and a reputation cemented by its classification as a 1855 Second Growth, or Grand Cru Classé. Today the estate remains highly regarded for producing wines of elegance, precision, and longevity, and it continues to be a benchmark for the appellation.
