Description
2022 Viñedo Chadwick is one of Chile’s most sought‑after red wines, a single-vineyard icon that showcases the country’s ability to rival the great Cabernet-based wines of the world. Crafted by Errazuriz from a historic estate in the Alto Maipo area of the Central Valley, it offers precision, elegance and depth in equal measure. Born from a former family polo field and named in honor of Eduardo Chadwick’s late father, this wine has become a modern benchmark for Chilean fine wine.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2022 Viñedo Chadwick shows a deep, vibrant ruby color with youthful purple reflections at the rim, signaling both concentration and freshness. The nose is refined and layered: cassis, ripe blackberry and black cherry are lifted by notes of graphite, fresh tobacco leaf and cedar, with subtle hints of violets, dried herbs, and fine baking spice from well-integrated oak.
On the palate, it is full-bodied yet beautifully poised, with velvety tannins and a precise line of acidity that keeps the wine taut and energetic. Flavors of blackcurrant, plums and dark cherry are intertwined with cocoa nib, pencil shavings, cigar box and a cool, mineral edge typical of top Maipo reds. The finish is long, linear and elegant, suggesting excellent aging potential. While already impressive in its youth with a short decant, this 2022 has the structure to develop gracefully for 12–20 years in a good cellar, gaining complexity and polish over time.
Production
Viñedo Chadwick comes from a single, high-quality vineyard in the Alto Maipo zone of Chile’s Central Valley, an area known for its alluvial soils, excellent drainage and significant diurnal temperature swings that favor slow, even ripening of Bordeaux varieties. The site’s gravelly, stony subsoils and moderate climate contribute to the wine’s hallmark elegance and fine tannin profile. Grapes are harvested by hand in small boxes, with strict selection both in the vineyard and again on the sorting table to ensure only pristine fruit is used. Fermentation typically takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks or small vats, allowing for gentle extraction and preservation of aromatic purity, followed by aging in high-quality French oak barrels—largely new and second-use—to add complexity and structure without overwhelming the vineyard character.
Food & Serving
The 2022 Viñedo Chadwick is a natural partner for refined, protein‑rich dishes such as grilled or roasted lamb, prime rib, dry-aged beef, or venison with rosemary and thyme. It also pairs beautifully with dishes featuring truffle, wild mushrooms, or dark, savory reductions, as well as aged hard cheeses like Comté or Parmigiano Reggiano. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight its aromatic detail and textural finesse. Young bottles will benefit from 1–2 hours in a decanter to allow the wine to open up and soften; older vintages should be decanted gently just before serving to remove sediment while preserving their more delicate tertiary aromas.
Producer
Errazuriz is one of Chile’s historic and most prestigious wine estates, founded in 1870 by Don Maximiano Errazuriz in the Aconcagua Valley. Over generations, the family has played a key role in elevating Chile’s reputation for premium and fine wines worldwide. Under the leadership of Eduardo Chadwick, Errazuriz has focused on terroir-driven, world-class cuvées, and Viñedo Chadwick stands at the pinnacle of this pursuit. The wine gained international acclaim when it competed successfully against top Bordeaux and other elite reds in blind tastings, helping secure Chile’s place on the global fine-wine stage. Today, Errazuriz is widely recognized for its pioneering work in vineyard selection, sustainability and quality-driven winemaking across Chile’s best regions.
