Flavors of cassis, black plum and wild berries are intertwined with notes of pencil shavings, sandalwood, espresso and a touch of savory minerality from the estate’s stony soils. Production
Sassicaia comes from the gently sloping hills of Bolgheri in coastal Tuscany, where vineyards sit on well-drained, gravelly and stony soils—‘sassicaia’ literally refers to “place of many stones.” This unique terroir, moderated by sea breezes and significant diurnal temperature variation, favors slow, even ripening of the Bordeaux varieties planted here. The 2022 Sassicaia is based predominantly on Cabernet Sauvignon with a smaller proportion of Cabernet Franc, harvested by hand at optimal ripeness parcel by parcel to preserve freshness and aromatic definition. After careful selection, the grapes are gently crushed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with attentive maceration to extract color, aroma and fine tannins without excess harshness. The wine is then aged in French oak barriques, a portion of which are new, allowing it to gain complexity, texture and subtle spice while retaining the hallmark elegance and balance that define Sassicaia.

The 2022 Sassicaia is a natural companion to refined, flavorful dishes such as grilled or roasted lamb, bistecca alla fiorentina, dry-aged beef, game birds, and slow-braised dishes like ossobuco or short ribs. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) in large Bordeaux-style glasses to allow the aromas to unfold. In its youth, decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended to soften the tannins and open up the bouquet; as the wine matures, a shorter, gentle decant mainly to remove any sediment will be sufficient.
