Spottswoode’s estate lies on the western edge of St. Helena in Napa Valley, where the alluvial clay and gravel soils of the Sulphur Creek fan provide excellent natural drainage and moderate vigor, ideal for concentrated yet finely etched wines. Cooled by marine breezes that funnel between the Spring Mountain and Mayacamas ranges, the fruit enjoys a long, even ripening season, preserving acidity and aromatic precision. Grapes for this Sauvignon Blanc are harvested by hand from the Spottswoode Estate and a selection of other elite, family-farmed sites, then vinified in a deliberately complex regimen: fermentation takes place in a mix of French oak barrels, small stainless-steel tanks, clay amphora, and ceramic and concrete vessels. This multifaceted approach builds texture and depth while retaining freshness, resulting in a wine that is both refined and remarkably complete.
