Description
The 2022 Millemann Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru is a striking expression of one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most revered climats, capturing the finesse and quiet power that define great Burgundy. Sourced from the storied Latricières-Chambertin vineyard, this Grand Cru offers depth, precision, and a beautifully sculpted structure that promises both immediate pleasure and long-term reward. It is a bottling for serious Burgundy lovers who seek elegance over sheer opulence.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2022 Latricières-Chambertin shows a vibrant ruby to deep garnet core with a luminous edge, hinting at both concentration and freshness. The nose is refined and detailed rather than showy, with aromas of wild cherry, redcurrant, and raspberry layered with rose petals, violets, and a cool, stony minerality. Subtle notes of spice, fine tea, and forest floor begin to emerge with air, pointing to the complexity that this terroir is known for.
On the palate, the wine is precise, linear, and beautifully woven. Silky yet firm tannins frame flavors of crunchy red berries, ripe Morello cherry, and a touch of black plum, lifted by bright acidity and a distinctly saline, mineral finish. Hints of sweet spice and fine oak are already well integrated, never overpowering the purity of the fruit. The 2022 vintage gives it an appealing approachability in youth, but this Grand Cru has the structure and balance to age gracefully for 12–20 years or more in a good cellar, gaining further nuance and tertiary complexity over time.
Production
Latricières-Chambertin is one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most characterful Grand Cru sites, known for its relatively cool exposition and well-drained, limestone-rich soils that naturally favor finesse and mineral-driven wines. The Pinot Noir grapes for Millemann’s 2022 bottling are sourced from low-yielding vines, harvested by hand to ensure careful selection of only the healthiest, perfectly ripe clusters. In the cellar, traditional Burgundian methods are used, with gentle extraction to preserve elegance, followed by aging in French oak barrels to add subtle structure and complexity while allowing the vineyard’s distinctive, cool, stony character to shine through.
Food & Serving
This Grand Cru is a superb partner for refined dishes such as roast duck, lamb saddle, veal with morels, or pigeon, as well as earthy preparations featuring mushrooms, truffles, or root vegetables. It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses like Comté or well-matured Gruyère. Serve at 15–16°C (59–61°F) to highlight its aromatic detail and freshness. Young bottles will benefit from 1–2 hours in a decanter to allow the bouquet and texture to fully unfold; older vintages should be handled more gently, with a shorter, careful decant primarily to remove sediment.
Producer
Millemann is a quality-focused Burgundy producer dedicated to crafting terroir-driven wines that faithfully express their origin, with a particular emphasis on the nuances of prestigious appellations like Gevrey-Chambertin. Though production is limited, the estate has gained attention among enthusiasts for its precise, judicious winemaking and respect for traditional Burgundian methods. With bottlings such as this Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru, Millemann contributes to the ongoing reputation of the Côte de Nuits as one of the world’s greatest sources of Pinot Noir, offering wines that balance purity, elegance, and aging potential.
