Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Rioja shows a bright, medium-deep ruby color with lively violet reflections, underlining its youthful energy. The nose is expressive and inviting, with notes of juicy red cherry, raspberry and plum framed by subtle hints of dried herbs, licorice, and a gentle touch of spice. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied and silky, with ripe red fruit at the core, a fresh line of acidity and fine, supple tannins that make it very drinkable. You can expect flavors of cherry, redcurrant and a hint of darker berry, supported by nuances of sweet spice and a faint earthiness that nods to classic Rioja. The 2022 vintage is made to be enjoyed in its youth for its vibrant fruit and balance, though in magnum format it can comfortably develop extra harmony and complexity over the next 3–6 years if properly cellared.

Production
Sourced from vineyards in Rioja, the Tapias de Marqués de Riscal reflects the region’s mix of clay-limestone and alluvial soils, which contribute both freshness and fruit concentration. The blend is based predominantly on Tempranillo, Rioja’s flagship red variety, potentially complemented by small portions of traditional local grapes such as Graciano or Mazuelo, depending on the year. Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness to preserve bright fruit and natural acidity, then gently crushed and fermented in temperature-controlled tanks to retain aromatics and purity of flavor. Aging is typically carried out in a combination of stainless steel and, where appropriate, a period in oak to add texture and subtle spice without overshadowing the youthful fruit character that defines this cuvée.

Food & Serving
This 2022 Rioja magnum is a versatile partner at the table, especially suited to gatherings and shared plates. It pairs beautifully with grilled lamb chops, roast chicken, pork loin, sausages, tapas, cured meats, semi-cured cheeses like Manchego, and hearty vegetable dishes such as roasted peppers, ratatouille or mushroom-based recipes. Serve at around 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight its freshness and aromatic lift. A brief decant of 20–30 minutes can help the wine open up in its youth, especially from magnum, but it is also very enjoyable simply poured and allowed to evolve in the glass.
