Description

The 2022 Louis Jadot Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières is a benchmark white Burgundy from one of Meursault’s most revered Premier Cru vineyards. Crafted entirely from Chardonnay, it combines mineral precision with generous, layered fruit, showcasing why Les Perrières is often mentioned in the same breath as Grand Cru sites. This cuvée offers both immediate pleasure and serious cellaring potential, making it a compelling choice for collectors and Burgundy enthusiasts alike.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières shows a bright, luminous straw-gold hue with green reflections, signalling both youth and freshness. The nose is finely etched and complex, offering aromas of lemon zest, white peach and crisp pear layered with crushed stone, flint, and hints of almond blossom and subtle toasted hazelnut from well-judged oak. With a little air, notes of fresh butter, brioche and wet limestone begin to emerge. On the palate, the 2022 vintage is generous yet tightly structured, balancing ripe orchard and citrus fruits with a firm, chiselled mineral backbone. Expect a mouth-coating texture that remains lifted by vibrant acidity, delivering flavours of Meyer lemon, ripe apple, stone fruits, and a saline, almost chalky persistence on the long, focused finish. The oak is integrated rather than dominant, adding gentle spice and creaminess without masking the terroir. While already approachable in its youth, this wine will reward patience and can comfortably age 8–15 years, gaining further complexity, nuance, and savoury depth over time.

Production
Les Perrières is one of Meursault’s most prized Premier Cru vineyards, famed for its stony, limestone-rich soils that give the wine its tension, clarity, and distinct minerality. The vines draw deeply into the rocky subsoil, resulting in naturally low yields and concentrated fruit. Grapes are typically harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve both freshness and aromatic complexity. In the cellar, Louis Jadot follows a traditional Burgundian approach: gentle pressing, followed by fermentation in oak barrels (a proportion of which are new) with careful temperature control. The wine is then aged on its lees in French oak, with judicious bâtonnage depending on the vintage, to build texture and depth while maintaining purity and the unmistakable Les Perrières character.

Food & Serving
This Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières shines alongside refined dishes that echo its richness and precision. Think butter-poached lobster, seared scallops, sole meunière, or turbot with a light beurre blanc. It also pairs beautifully with roasted chicken with morel cream sauce, veal in a delicate jus, or fine cheeses such as Comté, aged Gruyère, and mild, creamy cow’s milk cheeses. Serve lightly chilled at about 10–12°C (50–54°F) to allow the aromas and texture to fully express themselves. Decanting for 30–45 minutes in its youth can help the wine open up, while more mature bottles should be handled gently and decanted only briefly to separate any sediment and awaken the bouquet.
