Description

The 2022 La Pousse d'Or Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru is a distinguished white Burgundy from one of the most revered Chardonnay vineyards on earth. Crafted in minuscule quantities, it captures the hallmark finesse, precision, and minerality that have made Chevalier-Montrachet legendary. This is a collector-worthy wine that balances youthful energy with the promise of long-term evolution.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Grand Cru shows a luminous pale gold color with green reflections, hinting at both concentration and freshness. The nose is refined and layered, opening with white flowers, lemon zest, and crisp pear, followed by notes of nectarine, chalk dust, hazelnut, and a discreet touch of fine oak and warm brioche. On the palate, the 2022 Chevalier-Montrachet from La Pousse d'Or is both vertical and precise, with a spine of chalky minerality running through ripe stone fruit and citrus. Flavors of Meyer lemon, white peach, and golden apple are intertwined with subtle almond, struck flint, and a saline edge. The texture is silky yet taut, with vibrant acidity providing lift and great length on the finish. While already impressive in its youth, this wine has notable aging potential; properly cellared, it should evolve beautifully over 10–20 years, gaining complexity, honeyed nuances, and a deeper, more truffled character.

Production
Sourced from the hallowed Grand Cru slopes of Chevalier-Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune, this wine reflects a terroir of thin, stony limestone soils at higher elevation, which naturally favor finesse, tension, and aromatic purity. The Chardonnay grapes are typically harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, with strict sorting in the vineyard and at the winery to ensure only pristine fruit is used. Vinification generally follows a classic Burgundian approach: gentle pressing, fermentation in French oak barrels (a portion new, carefully managed to avoid overpowering the terroir), followed by extended aging on fine lees to build texture and complexity. The result is a wine that expresses both the meticulous craft of La Pousse d'Or and the singular personality of Chevalier-Montrachet.

Food & Serving
This is a gastronomic white Burgundy that shines alongside refined, richly flavored dishes. Ideal pairings include butter-poached lobster, seared scallops, turbot or sole with beurre blanc, roast chicken with morels, veal in a light cream sauce, or delicate truffle-inflected dishes. Mature hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Gruyère also make an excellent match. Serve at 10–12°C (50–54°F) to allow the aromatics to fully develop without losing freshness. Young bottles can benefit from 30–60 minutes in a decanter to help the wine open up, while older vintages should be handled gently and decanted only briefly, if at all, to preserve their evolved bouquet.

Producer
La Pousse d'Or is one of Burgundy’s most respected domaines, with roots that trace back to the 19th century in the Côte de Beaune village of Volnay. Long known for its precise, terroir-expressive wines from top Premier and Grand Cru sites, the estate has built a reputation for meticulous vineyard work, low yields, and an unwavering focus on quality. While it first gained renown for its exemplary red Burgundies, La Pousse d'Or has steadily earned acclaim for its whites from prestigious appellations such as Chevalier-Montrachet. Today, the domaine is considered a benchmark producer in the region, with its wines consistently sought after by collectors and Burgundy enthusiasts worldwide.
