Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2022 Schlossberg shows a luminous golden-yellow hue, hinting at both concentration and ripeness. The nose is expressive yet precise, with layers of grapefruit zest, ripe pear, citrus blossom and subtle crushed stone, wrapped in a gentle, almost smoky, note reminiscent of fine tobacco and flint. On the palate, the wine is immediately vibrant and fruit-intense, but carried on an elegant, finely etched frame. The attack is broad and rounded, with juicy citrus, pear and stone-fruit flavours that unfold gradually across the tongue. A firm, linear backbone of granite-driven minerality and bright acidity keeps everything perfectly in balance, leading into a long, complex finish with lingering lemon, saline and lightly spicy notes. Still very youthful, this Grand Cru Riesling has excellent aging potential: it will drink beautifully now with some aeration, but can evolve and gain complexity over 10–15 years or more in a good cellar.

Production
Schlossberg is one of Alsace’s most historic and prestigious Grand Cru sites, a dramatic, south- to south-east–facing slope of decomposed granite overlooking the village of Kaysersberg. The poor, stony soils force the Riesling vines to root deeply, giving naturally low yields and an intensely mineral character. At Domaine Weinbach, the grapes are harvested by hand with extremely strict selection, picked only at perfect maturity. In the cellar, they undergo an exceptionally slow and gentle pressing, followed by spontaneous alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts in large, old oak foudres. The wine rests on its lees in these traditional casks until late spring or early summer (June or July), allowing fermentation to finish slowly and complexity to build. All work in the vineyards and cellar follows rigorous biodynamic principles, aiming to capture the purest, most authentic expression of the Schlossberg terroir.

Food & Serving
This Grand Cru Riesling is superbly versatile at the table, pairing beautifully with refined seafood and poultry dishes. Enjoy it as a sophisticated aperitif, or serve alongside oysters, lobster, and delicate white fish such as sole or turbot. It is equally at home with fine poultry like turkey or Bresse chicken, especially when prepared with mushrooms or cream-based sauces, and it makes an inspired partner for sushi and sashimi, where its precision and salinity complement raw fish perfectly. Serve chilled but not too cold, ideally around 9–11 °C. Young bottles will benefit from 30–60 minutes in a decanter to allow the aromatics to unfurl; mature bottles can be served directly after a gentle pour.
