Description

The 2022 Domaine Evenstad Nuits-Saint-Georges Longecourts is a refined red Burgundy that captures the darker, more structured side of the Côte de Nuits. Sourced from the Longecourts climat in Nuits-Saint-Georges, this wine balances intensity with precision, offering both immediate pleasure and serious aging potential. It’s a thoughtful choice for Burgundy lovers looking for a modern, polished expression that still speaks clearly of its terroir.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges Longecourts shows a deep, vibrant ruby hue with youthful purple reflections at the rim. The nose opens with dark cherry and black raspberry, followed by notes of wild strawberries, violets, and rose petals, layered with subtle hints of forest floor, baking spice, and a touch of graphite. On the palate, this is a structured yet elegant Pinot Noir, with a core of ripe red and black berries framed by fine-grained tannins. Flavors of cherry, red currant, and blackberry are supported by savory undertones—dried herbs, subtle earth, and a whisper of toasted oak. The acidity is fresh and well-integrated, giving the wine lift and length, leading to a persistent finish with lingering notes of spice and minerality. While already approachable in its youth, this 2022 has the balance and structure to develop beautifully over 8–12 years in the cellar, gaining complexity and a more pronounced tertiary character with time.

Production
Domaine Evenstad’s Nuits-Saint-Georges Longecourts comes from carefully tended vines rooted in classic Côte de Nuits limestone and clay soils, which contribute both freshness and depth to the wine. The Longecourts site benefits from good drainage and favorable exposition, allowing for optimal ripening without sacrificing finesse. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure only the healthiest, perfectly ripe bunches make it to the winery. In the cellar, traditional Burgundian methods are used: gentle destemming (often with a judicious proportion of whole clusters, depending on vintage conditions), followed by a cool maceration and controlled fermentation to extract color, aroma, and fine tannins without harshness. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new, to add texture and complexity while keeping the oak influence in balance with the fruit and terroir expression.

Food & Serving
This Nuits-Saint-Georges Longecourts pairs beautifully with refined yet flavorful dishes: roast duck with cherries, herb-crusted lamb, veal chops, or mushroom-based dishes such as wild mushroom risotto or truffle-infused poultry. It also works well with game birds, charcuterie, and semi-soft cheeses like Époisses or aged Tomme. For optimal enjoyment, serve at 14–16°C (57–61°F). Younger bottles will benefit from 45–60 minutes in a decanter to open up the aromatics and soften the tannins, while more mature bottles can simply be gently opened and served, with a light splash-decant if needed to remove sediment.

Producer
Domaine Evenstad is the Burgundian outpost of the Evenstad family, known for elevating Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to world-class status with their work in Oregon. In Burgundy, the estate focuses on meticulously farmed, well-situated vineyards, aiming to marry local tradition with a precision-driven, terroir-focused philosophy. Their presence in Nuits-Saint-Georges underlines the growing international interest and investment in the region, bringing fresh energy while respecting the deep-rooted heritage of the Côte d’Or. Domaine Evenstad’s wines are increasingly recognized for their combination of purity, balance, and ageworthy structure, positioning the producer as a noteworthy name to watch in modern Burgundy.
