Description
Château Pontet-Canet 2022 is a standout Pauillac from one of Bordeaux’s most respected classified growths, combining power, precision, and a distinctly organic sense of purity. Known for delivering remarkable depth and refinement, this vintage reflects the estate’s long-standing reputation for crafting wines with both classical structure and modern vitality.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, almost opaque ruby colour. The nose is generous and layered, with dark cassis, black cherry, graphite, cedar, violets, and a subtle earthy, tobacco-like complexity.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and concentrated, yet remarkably balanced, with fine-grained tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, persistent finish. It has the concentration to evolve beautifully over time and should reward cellaring for many years, gaining further nuance and complexity.
Production
Produced in Pauillac, where gravel-rich soils and excellent drainage help Cabernet Sauvignon thrive, this wine draws on the classic Left Bank terroir of Bordeaux. Château Pontet-Canet is known for biodynamic farming and careful vineyard work, with hand-harvesting where appropriate and meticulous selection to ensure only the best fruit is vinified. Fermentation and ageing are carried out with precision to preserve purity, structure, and the character of the vintage.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with prime rib, lamb, duck breast, game, or dishes with earthy elements such as mushrooms and truffle. Serve at around 16-18°C, and decant for at least 1-2 hours if enjoying it young to help the wine open up and show its full aromatic depth.
Producer
Château Pontet-Canet is one of Pauillac’s most admired estates, with a history dating back to the 18th century. Classified as a Fifth Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, it has earned widespread acclaim for its exceptional quality and pioneering commitment to biodynamic viticulture. Under the Tesseron family, the château has become a benchmark for expressive, terroir-driven Bordeaux.
