Description

The 2022 Château Pichon Longueville Baron Magnum is a powerful expression of Pauillac, combining classic Left Bank structure with the concentration and freshness of an outstanding vintage. Offered in magnum format, it is especially well suited to long-term cellaring, allowing the wine to develop slowly and gracefully over time. As one of Bordeaux’s most respected classified growths, Pichon Baron has long been associated with elegance, precision, and age-worthy Cabernet-driven wines.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine typically shows a deep, saturated ruby-purple colour that hints at its depth and intensity. The nose is expected to be layered and refined, with blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, graphite, violet, and subtle notes of tobacco, spice, and fresh pencil shavings. On the palate, it should be full-bodied and structured, with firm yet polished tannins, vivid acidity, and a long, savoury finish. The 2022 vintage suggests impressive ripeness and energy, giving the wine both immediate appeal and significant aging potential. In magnum, it is likely to evolve even more slowly, with a drinking window that can extend for decades.

Production
Produced in Pauillac on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Château Pichon Longueville Baron is known for gravelly soils that favour Cabernet Sauvignon, helping produce wines with power, minerality, and depth. The estate’s vineyards benefit from excellent drainage and a tempering influence from the nearby Gironde estuary, which helps preserve freshness in warm vintages. Vinification is typically carried out with meticulous parcel selection and careful extraction to preserve precision, structure, and aromatic complexity.

Food & Serving
This is a superb match for classic Bordeaux pairings such as ribeye steak, lamb loin, roast beef, duck breast, or game dishes like venison. It also works beautifully with hard cheeses and richly flavoured mushroom-based dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young, or longer if you want to fully open up the wine’s aromatics and soften its tannins.

Producer
Château Pichon Longueville Baron is a Second Growth estate from the 1855 Bordeaux Classification and one of the leading names in Pauillac. Its history stretches back to the 19th century, and the château has built a strong reputation for producing structured, long-lived wines with a distinctly noble character. Today, it is widely regarded as one of the benchmark estates of the Médoc, with a consistent record of critical acclaim and strong regional prestige.
