Description
The 2022 Chardonnay “Tenth Stop” from Senses Wines captures the cool-climate precision of Sonoma Coast with the richness and depth that make California Chardonnay so compelling. Named in tribute to Occidental and the historic North Pacific Coast Railroad, it reflects both a sense of place and a thoughtful, terroir-driven winemaking style.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Chardonnay shows a polished, inviting profile with ripe fruit and a subtle, elegant oak frame. The nose opens with honeydew melon, grilled lemon, and hazelnut, lifted by mineral accents and gentle spice.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and creamy, with dense fruit, a refined savory edge, and excellent balance. The finish is long and layered, with a delicate crème brûlée note and enough structure to suggest very good aging potential over the next several years.
Production
The fruit comes from the Sonoma Coast AVA, where cool maritime influence, fog, and wind extend the growing season and help preserve freshness and tension in the wine. The well-drained marine soils contribute to the wine’s mineral precision and focused character. Grapes were selectively hand-sorted and vinified with a restrained, terroir-first approach using native yeasts, then matured for 14 months in French oak, including around 30% new barrels, to build texture without overwhelming the site expression.
Food & Serving
This Chardonnay is a natural match for lobster, scallops, and grilled fish, and it also works beautifully with roast poultry, creamy sauces, or aged hard cheeses. Serve chilled at 10–12°C; decanting is not necessary, though a short time in the glass will help the wine open up.
Producer
Senses Wines was founded in 2011 by three childhood friends with a shared goal of expressing standout Sonoma County vineyard sites as authentically as possible. Based in Sonoma County and strongly rooted in terroir-driven winemaking, the winery has built a reputation for precise, site-transparent wines that showcase the character of the region’s best vineyards.
