The nose opens with layers of blackcurrant, ripe blackberry and dark cherry, intertwined with notes of graphite, cedar, violet, and a touch of baking spice and cocoa from careful oak aging. On the palate, the 2022 Cathiard Vineyard Cabernet is full-bodied and impeccably composed, with ripe yet firm tannins that frame the fruit rather than dominate it. The Cathiard family farms the estate with a strong emphasis on sustainability and precision, often employing meticulous, parcel-by-parcel attention in the vineyard, including careful canopy management and low yields to ensure concentration and balance. Grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, sorted rigorously, and vinified in small lots to preserve the character of each block. Fermentation typically takes place in temperature-controlled tanks, followed by aging in French oak barrels—often with a significant proportion of new oak—to polish the tannins and add aromatic complexity without overwhelming the purity of the fruit.
