Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2021 Biserno shows a deep, vibrant ruby core with youthful purple hues at the rim, signaling both concentration and freshness. The nose is layered and expressive, with ripe blackcurrant, dark cherry and plum leading the way, framed by notes of graphite, cedar, tobacco leaf and subtle spice. Hints of wild herbs, cocoa and a gentle floral lift add complexity as the wine opens. On the palate, Biserno is full-bodied yet beautifully balanced, combining ripe, dark fruit with refined structure. Silky but firm tannins provide a confident backbone, while lively acidity keeps the wine energetic and precise. Flavors of blackberries, cassis and black cherries are intertwined with nuances of mocha, pencil shavings, dried Mediterranean herbs and a touch of savory earth. The finish is long, layered and persistent, suggesting excellent aging potential. While already enjoyable in its youth with proper aeration, the 2021 Biserno will continue to evolve gracefully over the next 10–15 years or more, gaining in complexity and harmony.

Production
Tenuta di Biserno lies in the coastal part of Tuscany, in the Upper Maremma near Bibbona and Bolgheri, where maritime breezes, abundant sunlight and well-drained, mixed soils of clay, sand and gravel create an ideal setting for Bordeaux grape varieties. The estate focuses primarily on Cabernet Franc, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, harvested parcel by parcel at optimal ripeness, typically by hand to ensure careful selection. In the cellar, the grapes are vinified separately, with temperature-controlled fermentation to preserve purity of fruit and aromatic detail. After fermentation, the components are aged in French oak barriques (a portion of which are new) to add structure, polish and complexity, before blending and further maturation in bottle. The result is a wine that marries Tuscan terroir with a Bordelais-inspired approach to precision and refinement.

Food & Serving
The 2021 Biserno is a natural partner for richly flavored dishes and fine cuts of meat. Think Florentine steak, roast lamb with rosemary, braised beef short ribs, or game such as venison and wild boar. It also pairs beautifully with aged Pecorino, Parmigiano-Reggiano, truffle dishes and hearty mushroom risottos. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to showcase its aromatic complexity and textural finesse. Decant for 1–2 hours in its youth to allow the tannins to soften and the bouquet to fully unfurl; with bottle age, a shorter decant is sufficient mainly to remove any sediment.

Tenuta di Biserno was founded by Lodovico Antinori, the visionary behind Tenuta dell’Ornellaia, in collaboration with his brother Piero and consultant oenologist Michel Rolland. Located in Bibbona, bordering the famous Bolgheri appellation, the estate was identified for its exceptional potential to grow Cabernet Franc and other Bordeaux varieties in a distinctly Tuscan expression. Since its first vintages, Tenuta di Biserno has emerged as a reference point for high-end coastal Tuscan reds, helping to define a new benchmark for elegance and structure in the region.
