The fruit for Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc comes from the estate’s vineyards in Pessac-Léognan, where vines are planted on classic Günzian gravel over a limestone and clay subsoil—an ideal terroir for producing concentrated yet vibrantly fresh white wines. The estate farms with a strong focus on organic and biodynamic principles, encouraging biodiversity and working as naturally as possible in the vineyard; harvest is conducted by hand, parcel by parcel, at optimal ripeness to preserve aromatic precision. In the cellar, the grapes are gently pressed and the must is clarified before fermenting—typically in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new, crafted in the château’s own cooperage. The wine is then aged on its lees with regular bâtonnage (lees stirring), adding texture and complexity while maintaining the tension and minerality that define the 2021 vintage.
