2021 Realm Cellars Houyi Vineyard is a pure, single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from the revered slopes of Pritchard Hill in Napa Valley. Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2021 Houyi Vineyard shows a dense, opaque garnet core with a vivid, youthful rim. The nose is powerful and layered, opening with rich blackcurrant jam, stewed plum and dark fruitcake, then unfolding into more savory and earthy nuances of charcoal, wild sage, mossy bark and black olive tapenade. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, tightly woven Cabernet with striking concentration and energy. Packed black fruit—cassis, blackberry and ripe plum—is framed by firm, grainy tannins and a lively, refreshing acidity that keeps the wine poised rather than heavy. Hints of graphite, warm spice and crushed rock carry through into a long, earthy finish that lingers with mineral and herbal complexity. While already impressive in its youth, the structure and depth suggest excellent aging potential over 10–20 years, with added tertiary nuances emerging over time.

Production
Houyi Vineyard lies high on Pritchard Hill, one of Napa Valley’s most coveted terroirs, defined by its rocky, volcanic soils, abundant sunlight and significant diurnal temperature swings. These conditions naturally limit yields, concentrating flavor and tannin in the Cabernet Sauvignon berries. Realm Cellars works with meticulous vineyard practices, including careful canopy management and selective harvesting by hand to capture optimal ripeness and balance. In the cellar, the wine is vinified with a focus on purity and structure: gentle extraction, precise temperature control during fermentation, and aging in high-quality French oak barrels (a significant portion new) to polish the tannins and build complexity without overwhelming the character of the site.

Food & Serving
This powerful yet finely balanced Cabernet Sauvignon is best matched with richly flavored dishes: grilled or dry-aged ribeye, roast lamb with herbs, braised short ribs, game birds, or truffle-infused dishes and aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18 °C (60–65 °F) to showcase its aromatic complexity and freshness. Decanting for 1–3 hours in its youth will help open the bouquet and soften the tannins; as it ages, a shorter decant primarily to remove sediment will be sufficient.
