Quintessa is an estate wine sourced from a single, 280-acre property in the Rutherford appellation of Napa Valley, where vineyards are thoughtfully planted across rolling hills, benchlands and gravelly alluvial soils overlooking the Silverado Trail. The diverse terroir—featuring volcanic and alluvial compositions, varied exposures and significant elevation changes—allows the team to harvest multiple distinct parcels that each contribute a different dimension of fruit, structure or aromatics. The grapes are farmed organically and biodynamically, often harvested by hand in the cool of the morning to preserve freshness and purity. In the winery, each block is vinified separately, typically in a mix of stainless steel and concrete fermenters, with carefully managed pump-overs or punch-downs to extract fine tannins rather than harshness. After fermentation, the lots are aged in French oak barrels (a significant portion new) before a rigorous selection and blending process, creating a final cuvée that captures the character of the estate in the 2021 vintage.
