Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2021 Galatrona shows a deep, almost opaque ruby-purple hue, signaling both concentration and youth. The nose is intense and layered, opening with ripe black cherry and plum, then unfurling into notes of dark chocolate, sweet tobacco, black spice and cocoa, with earthy undertones, eucalyptus, and a whisper of white truffle adding remarkable complexity. On the palate, this is a full-bodied yet beautifully composed Merlot, with a plush, velvety texture and an abundance of dark, juicy fruit. Flavors of black cherry, plum compote and blackberry are framed by finely integrated new oak, offering hints of roasted coffee, cedar and toast. The structure is rich but elegant, with vibrant, mouthwatering acidity keeping everything fresh and lifted. Tannins are ripe and polished, promising excellent longevity, while the finish is very long, echoing dark fruit, spice, and earth. In magnum, the aging potential is outstanding: 15–20+ years from vintage, during which the wine will gain even more complexity and tertiary nuances.

Production
Galatrona is sourced from a single ten-hectare Merlot vineyard in Mercatale Valdarno, in eastern Tuscany near Arezzo. The site is defined by thick clay soils that naturally restrict vigor and concentrate the fruit, giving the wine its power and depth. Yields are kept extremely low—only about 500 grams of grapes per vine—and the harvest is carried out entirely by hand, with meticulous selection so that only the most pristine berries make it into the final blend. Fermentation lasts around 14 days, followed by a smooth, complete malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for approximately 18 months in new French barriques, where it gains its refined texture, layered aromatics and ability to age with grace.

Food & Serving
This is a serious, contemplative red that shines alongside equally refined cuisine. Pair the 2021 Galatrona Magnum with classic Tuscan dishes such as bistecca alla fiorentina, slow-braised beef or veal shank, roast lamb with herbs, or rich game dishes like venison or wild boar. It also marries beautifully with truffle-based preparations, mushroom risottos and mature hard cheeses such as aged pecorino or Parmesan. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) and, given its youth and concentration, decant for 1–2 hours to allow the wine to fully open and reveal its aromatic range.
