Description

The 2021 Morlet Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon ‘Coeur De Vallée’ is a powerful yet polished expression of Oakville in the heart of Napa Valley. Crafted by renowned winemaker Luc Morlet, this cuvée marries Napa’s ripe intensity with a distinctly Bordeaux-inspired sense of structure and finesse. Sourced from prime vineyards in the central valley floor, it has quickly become one of the estate’s benchmark wines and a reference point for modern Napa Cabernet.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2021 Coeur De Vallée is deep, saturated ruby to almost opaque purple at the core, hinting at its concentration and youth. The nose opens with layers of blackcurrant, ripe blackberry and plum, underscored by notes of graphite, cocoa, espresso bean and crushed violets, with subtle hints of cedar, tobacco leaf and warm baking spices from fine French oak. On the palate, this is full-bodied and richly textured, yet remarkably poised. Succulent dark fruit—cassis, black cherry and boysenberry—drives the core, framed by firm but refined tannins and vibrant, well-integrated acidity. Nuances of dark chocolate, licorice, pencil shavings and a touch of dried herbs add complexity as the wine fans out across a long, persistent finish. Still primary and tightly knit, the 2021 vintage has significant aging potential; properly cellared, it should evolve gracefully for 15–20 years, gaining even more aromatic nuance and textural harmony.

Production
Coeur De Vallée is sourced from premier vineyards in Napa Valley’s Oakville AVA, an area famed for its deep, well-drained alluvial and gravelly soils and ideal exposure, which together yield Cabernet of both power and aromatic lift. Grapes are typically harvested by hand in small batches at optimal ripeness, with rigorous sorting in the vineyard and again at the winery to ensure only pristine fruit makes it into the final blend. The wine is fermented in temperature-controlled vessels, often with gentle extraction to preserve freshness and fine tannin quality, and then aged in high-quality French oak barrels, a significant portion of which are new, to add texture and complexity without overwhelming the purity of the fruit.

Food & Serving
This Cabernet Sauvignon is a natural match for richly flavored, protein-driven dishes: think dry-aged ribeye, lamb chops with rosemary and garlic, braised short ribs, venison, or a truffle-infused mushroom ragù. It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses like Comté, Parmigiano-Reggiano, or mature Gouda. Serve at 16–18°C (about 60–65°F) to showcase its aromatic complexity and structure. Decanting for 1–2 hours in its youth is recommended to allow the wine to open fully; older bottles will require a gentler, shorter decant primarily to separate from any fine sediment.

Producer
Morlet Family Vineyards is the personal project of Luc and Jodie Morlet, established in the mid-2000s and quickly recognized as one of California’s elite, boutique producers. Luc Morlet, originally from Champagne and with a background at top Bordeaux and California estates (including a celebrated tenure at Peter Michael Winery), is known for his ability to combine Old World sensibility with New World ripeness. Working with exceptional vineyard sites across Napa Valley and Sonoma, Morlet crafts limited-production wines that regularly receive critical acclaim and high scores, contributing to the region’s reputation for world-class Cabernet Sauvignon and elevated, terroir-driven winemaking.
