Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses shows a luminous, translucent ruby hue with shades of ripe cherry at the rim—classically elegant Pinot Noir from this famed terroir. The nose is beguiling and ever-changing: lifted red berry notes of raspberry and wild strawberry, shifting toward cherry and kirsch, then layering in hints of rose petal, violets, and fine spice. With air, more complex tones emerge—subtle truffle, forest floor, damp earth, and a delicate woodiness, with the potential over time to develop musky, almost gamey nuances that remain refined rather than rustic. On the palate, the wine is all about texture and harmony. The attack is precise yet gentle, with a silky, almost weightless mouthfeel supported by very fine, chalk-dust tannins. Intense but not heavy, it offers a core of vibrant red fruit—raspberry, red cherry, and pomegranate—wrapped in a velvety structure and lifted by vivid, mouthwatering acidity. Production
Les Amoureuses lies on the mid-slope of Chambolle-Musigny, on well-drained, limestone-rich soils with a high proportion of fine marl and stones—terroir that naturally delivers finesse, fragrance, and a distinctive mineral tension. Joseph Drouhin works with low yields and meticulous viticulture, following sustainable and largely organic/biodynamic principles to allow the Pinot Noir to express this privileged site with clarity. Grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, carefully sorted to ensure only the healthiest, most pristine bunches are used. Vinification is gentle and detail-focused: partial de-stemming (depending on the vintage), a cool maceration to capture delicate aromas, followed by a traditional fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Extraction is kept very light—mostly through pumping over rather than aggressive punching down—to preserve elegance. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, with a discreet proportion of new oak, to support but never dominate the wine’s perfume and silk-like texture.

Food & Serving
This wine calls for refined, subtly flavored dishes that echo its finesse rather than overpower it. Think roasted pigeon or quail, veal tenderloin with morels, duck breast with a cherry or raspberry glaze, or simply grilled lamb chops with fine herbs. On the lighter side, mushroom risotto, truffle-infused dishes, and mature but not overly pungent cheeses such as Comté or aged Tomme are superb partners. Serve at 15–16°C (59–61°F) to highlight its aromatic complexity and delicate texture. In youth, especially from magnum, decant for 1–2 hours to allow the bouquet to unfurl; with more bottle age, a gentle 30–45 minute decant is sufficient mainly to remove any sediment and let the wine breathe.
