In the glass, the 2021 Reiterpfad Grand Cru shines a pale lemon-gold with green reflections, signalling both youth and tension. The nose opens with finely etched aromas of ripe citrus—lime, lemon zest and grapefruit—layered with white peach, green apple skin, and a crystalline minerality reminiscent of wet stone and crushed chalk. Subtle notes of white flowers, herbal nuances and a hint of smoky, salty reduction add complexity and depth. On the palate, this is a focused, dry Riesling with a taut, linear profile. The cool 2021 vintage shows in the lively, finely tuned acidity, which frames flavours of citrus, crunchy stone fruit, and a touch of yellow plum. The sandstone- and limestone-rich soils translate into a firm mineral backbone and a long, precise finish with a gentle saline edge. The texture is elegant rather than opulent, with notable concentration but no heaviness. Production
The Reiterpfad vineyard, whose name refers to a Roman cavalry route, lies at the historic crossroads of two ancient Roman roads in the heart of the Pfalz. The site benefits from a mild, sunny climate, while the soils are composed of sandy loam interspersed with conglomerates of variegated sandstone and limestone, giving the wines both generosity and a pronounced mineral core. Dr. Bürklin-Wolf farms this Grand Cru parcel biodynamically, with meticulous attention to soil health and biodiversity, and harvest is carried out by hand to ensure optimal ripeness and strict selection of bunches. In the cellar, the estate follows a low-intervention philosophy: the Riesling is gently pressed, fermented with minimal manipulation—partly in stainless steel and partly in traditional, neutral wooden casks—and then allowed to mature on the lees to build texture and complexity while preserving the clarity of the terroir.

This dry, structured Riesling is a versatile partner at the table, particularly well suited to refined cuisine. It pairs beautifully with seafood such as grilled sea bass, scallops, sushi and sashimi, as well as with shellfish in citrus or herb-based sauces. Its acidity and mineral backbone also make it excellent with poultry, veal, or pork in light cream or wine sauces, and it stands up well to aromatic dishes like Thai or Vietnamese cuisine that are not overly sweet.
