Carruades de Lafite is the elegant second wine of Château Lafite Rothschild, offering a more approachable expression of one of Bordeaux’s most legendary estates. From the 2021 vintage, it captures the finesse, precision, and pedigree associated with Pauillac, while remaining a beautiful introduction to the château’s style.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby colour with bright youthful reflections. The nose is refined and layered, often opening with blackcurrant, cedar, graphite, and floral nuances, supported by subtle spice and a hint of tobacco. The palate is poised and polished, with fine tannins, fresh acidity, and a graceful core of dark berry fruit, earth, and mineral notes. It tends to be less concentrated than the Grand Vin, but very expressive and balanced, with good mid-palate depth and a long, classic finish. Carruades de Lafite can drink well relatively early, though it also has the structure to develop beautifully for several years.

Production
Produced in Pauillac on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, Carruades de Lafite benefits from gravelly soils that provide excellent drainage and help moderate vine vigour. The estate’s vineyards are farmed with great attention to detail, and fruit selection is rigorous to preserve the house style and quality. Vinification is carried out with precision, aiming to highlight freshness, purity, and the nuanced character of the vintage.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game birds, and mushroom-based dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about 1 hour if drinking young to allow the aromas and texture to open fully.
