Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2021 Château Hosanna presents a deep ruby-purple hue with luminous highlights, hinting at both concentration and freshness. The nose is complex and immediately expressive, offering layers of ripe black cherry, wild raspberry and plum, interwoven with violet, graphite, cocoa nibs and subtle notes of truffle and fine cedar from sensitive oak aging. On the palate, this is a medium to full-bodied Pomerol with superb balance rather than sheer power. The Merlot provides a plush, velvety core of dark berry and redcurrant fruit, while the Cabernet Franc brings lift, floral tones and a finely etched mineral edge. Silky tannins frame flavors of black cherry, damson, cocoa, sweet tobacco and a touch of spice, leading into a long, precise finish with a savory, slightly saline note that speaks clearly of its gravel-and-clay origins. While approachable after a short aeration in its youth, the structure and acidity suggest very good aging potential over the next 10–15 years, gaining complexity and further harmony in bottle.

Production
Château Hosanna’s small vineyard, ideally situated on Pomerol’s famed plateau, is planted predominantly to Merlot with a significant proportion of old-vine Cabernet Franc rooted in deep gravel and clay soils over an iron-rich subsoil—conditions that lend both opulence and tension to the wine. In 2021, careful vineyard work was essential: yields were tightly controlled, with meticulous green harvesting and rigorous selection at picking to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy grapes were retained. The fruit was harvested by hand in small lots, sorted berry by berry, then vinified parcel by parcel to capture the nuances of each section of the vineyard. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled vats, followed by aging in French oak barrels (a significant proportion new) to add polish and complexity without overwhelming the purity of the fruit or the clarity of the terroir.

The 2021 Château Hosanna is a superb partner for refined dishes that complement its layered fruit and fine-grained structure. It pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, veal chops, or classic dishes such as braised short ribs and rich poultry preparations with truffle or mushroom sauces. It also works well with mature hard cheeses and earthy vegetable dishes featuring lentils, cèpes, or root vegetables. For optimal enjoyment, serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F). In its youth, decant for 1–2 hours to open the aromatics and soften the tannins; as it matures, a shorter decant or gentle splash in a carafe will be sufficient.
