Description
The 2021 Château Haut-Brion Magnum is a remarkable expression of one of Bordeaux’s most historic First Growth estates, presented in a format that enhances both presence and longevity. Known for its finesse, depth, and unmistakable Graves character, it combines power with extraordinary detail and poise. As the oldest of the original Bordeaux First Growths, Château Haut-Brion carries a legacy that has shaped fine wine history for centuries.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Haut-Brion typically shows a deep, refined color with exceptional clarity and concentration. The nose is layered and complex, unfolding with dark berries, plum, cigar box, graphite, and subtle smoky, earthy notes that are signature to the estate’s gravelly terroir.
The palate is poised and textured, balancing ripe black fruit with savory minerality, fine tannins, and remarkable precision. The magnum format supports a slower, more graceful evolution, making this a wine with excellent aging potential and the ability to develop beautifully over decades.
Production
Haut-Brion is located in Pessac-Léognan, where the estate’s deep gravel soils and warm, well-drained site give the wines their distinctive elegance and smoky complexity. The 2021 vintage would have been harvested with meticulous selection, as is standard at the property, and vinified with a focus on preserving purity, structure, and site expression. The result is a wine of precision, balance, and classic Bordeaux character.
Food & Serving
Best enjoyed with refined dishes such as roast lamb, beef fillet, duck breast, game birds, or truffle-inflected cuisine. Serve at around 16–18°C for optimal expression, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the bouquet and structure to open fully.
Producer
Château Haut-Brion is one of Bordeaux’s most iconic estates and the only First Growth from Graves in the 1855 Classification. With origins dating back several centuries, it is celebrated for producing wines of exceptional individuality, combining perfume, depth, and longevity. Its long-standing prestige and consistent quality have made it a benchmark for collectors worldwide.
