Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Rosso di Montepulciano shows a deep, luminous ruby-red colour with youthful violet reflections at the rim. The nose is immediately evocative of Tuscany: ripe black cherries and dark plums layered with notes of wild herbs, menthol, sweet tobacco, and a hint of licorice, framed by subtle spice and a gentle touch of well-integrated oak. On the palate, it is juicy, medium to full-bodied and wonderfully expressive, with flavours of black cherry, black raspberry and plum supported by savoury undertones of dried herbs, cedar, baking spice and a faint earthy warmth. The tannins are ripe and polished, giving the wine a firm but friendly structure, while fresh acidity keeps everything lively and food-friendly. There is notable depth and length for the category, suggesting an aging potential of about 5–8 years from the vintage, though its generous fruit and supple texture make it highly enjoyable in its youth.

Production
The vineyards for Villa Sant’Anna Rosso di Montepulciano lie on the sun-washed hills surrounding Montepulciano at 250–300 metres above sea level, facing southeast—an exposure that favours slow, even ripening and preserves aromatic freshness. The blend is 80% Sangiovese with 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Canaiolo, Mammolo and Colorino, planted at deliberately lower densities to prioritise quality over yield. Grapes are carefully selected by hand, ensuring only the healthiest, ripest fruit is used. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats at no more than 30°C, with about 15 days of maceration on the skins to extract colour, aroma and fine tannins without harshness. The wine then ages for around 10 months in medium-sized oak casks, followed by an additional 8 months in bottle in the estate’s ancient underground cellars, where naturally cool, humid conditions allow a slow, graceful maturation. The wine is VEGAN certified, reflecting an attention to detail that extends from vineyard to bottle.

Food & Serving
This Rosso di Montepulciano is an exceptionally versatile food wine and pairs beautifully with classic Tuscan cuisine: think pappardelle with ragù, grilled sausages, roasted pork, Florentine-style steak, or herb-roasted chicken. It also complements aged Pecorino, charcuterie boards, mushroom risotto and tomato-based pasta dishes. Serve at 16–18°C. A brief decant of 30–45 minutes helps the aromas open up and rounds the tannins, but the wine will also show well simply poured into large Burgundy or Bordeaux-style glasses.
