The 2020 San Marzano 60 Sessantanni Old Vines Primitivo di Manduria Magnum is one of Puglia’s most celebrated expressions of Primitivo, made from exceptionally old vines and bottled in an impressive magnum format. Rich, concentrated, and deeply regional in character, it reflects the warmth and intensity of Manduria, where this grape has long been a signature of the south of Italy.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, intense ruby color with garnet reflections. The nose is generous and inviting, unfolding with ripe black cherry, plum, dried fig, cocoa, sweet spice, and a touch of Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is full-bodied and velvety, with layers of dark fruit, jammy blackberry, licorice, vanilla, and warm spice supported by soft tannins and a rounded, mouth-filling texture. The magnum format makes it especially appealing for cellaring, as the wine can evolve gracefully over several years, gaining added complexity and harmony.

Production
Sourced from old vines in the Manduria zone of Puglia, the wine benefits from hot, sun-drenched conditions, Mediterranean breezes, and well-drained soils that help create the variety’s signature richness and depth. The grapes are typically harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve the concentration and character of the fruit. Vinification is geared toward extracting color, structure, and aromatic intensity, followed by maturation in oak to add polish, spice, and complexity.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent partner for grilled meats, braised lamb, hearty pasta dishes, roasted game, and aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and if possible, decant for 30–60 minutes to allow the wine’s aromatics and texture to fully open.
