Production
The Merlot grapes for Riserva Cortazo come exclusively from the Brenntal vineyard in Cortaccia, a steep, sun-bathed site in Alto Adige known as one of the region’s warmest microclimates. Here, the combination of heat-retaining soils and significant diurnal temperature variation allows the fruit to achieve excellent ripeness while preserving aromatic lift and freshness. Harvested by hand to ensure only perfectly mature, healthy berries are selected, the grapes undergo fermentation and maceration in tank over approximately 14 days to extract color, aroma, and fine tannins. After fermentation, the wine is matured for 12 months in small oak barrels, where it gains structure, complexity, and a polished texture before being bottled as a limited single-vineyard cuvée of just 2,283 individually numbered bottles.
