The 2020 Laimburg Oyèll Alto Adige Sauvignon Blanc Riserva is a refined, wood-aged expression of Sauvignon Blanc from the steep slopes above Tyrol in Alto Adige. Grown at 600 meters on the historic Burgfried Schloss Tirol estate, this Riserva captures the alpine freshness and precision that have made the region’s whites so sought-after. Named “Oyèll” after the legendary “Lady of the Pale Mountains” from Dolomite folklore, it combines mountain elegance with serious structure and aging potential.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a bright straw-yellow hue with delicate green reflections, underlining its freshness and youth. The nose is pronounced and immediately distinctive, with ripe fig, redcurrant and subtle citrus, wrapped in gentle oak nuances and a hint of alpine herbs. On the palate, this is a firmly structured, mineral-driven Sauvignon Blanc with a lightly saline edge that speaks clearly of its high-altitude origins. The oak aging brings texture and complexity rather than heaviness, supporting layers of stone fruit, fig, currant and a touch of smokiness. A vibrant, stimulating acidity gives the wine great tension and length, making it both vibrant now and promising for the future. Thanks to its Riserva élevage and naturally high acidity, this 2020 vintage has solid aging potential and will continue to develop more nuance and tertiary notes over several years in bottle.

Production
The Oyèll Sauvignon Blanc Riserva is sourced from the Burgfried Schloss Tirol vineyard, including the "Putzngütl" site, perched at around 600 meters above sea level near the town of Tyrol in Alto Adige. Here, steep, well-drained slopes, significant day–night temperature swings and mineral-rich mountain soils contribute to the wine’s intensity, purity and minerality. Grapes are carefully selected and harvested by hand from this roughly 4-hectare holding to ensure optimal ripeness and concentration. After fermentation, the wine spends an average of eight months aging in oak barrels, where it gains structure, complexity and subtle spice, followed by additional bottle aging before release to harmonize its components and refine its character.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent gastronomic Sauvignon Blanc, ideal with seafood and refined, flavorful dishes. Try it with grilled sea bass, scallops, oysters, or shellfish pastas, as well as alpine specialties like freshwater trout, goat’s cheese, or aged mountain cheeses. It also pairs beautifully with vegetable-based dishes such as asparagus risotto or herb-roasted poultry. Serve at around 10–12°C to highlight both its aromatic intensity and its texture. A short decant of 20–30 minutes can help the wine open up, especially in its youth, allowing the oak nuances and mineral notes to fully express themselves.

Laimburg is a unique estate in Alto Adige, combining a winery with a respected regional research center, partly owned by the state. Drawing fruit from around 20 hectares of vineyards spread across different Alto Adige growing zones, the estate cultivates roughly 15 grape varieties at elevations ranging from 200 to 750 meters. With a small total production of about 90,000 bottles per year, Laimburg focuses firmly on quality rather than quantity, crafting wines that are considered among the finest in the region.
