Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2020 Finca Villacreces shows a deep, inky ruby color with purple highlights at the rim, signalling concentration and youth. The nose is expressive and layered, with ripe blackberries, dark cherries and plums wrapped in notes of violets, cacao, sweet spice and a touch of toasted cedar from French oak. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet surprisingly graceful, with fine-grained tannins and a long, elegant line of acidity keeping the rich fruit in balance. Flavors of blackcurrant, mulberry and spiced cherry mingle with hints of mocha, graphite, vanilla pod and a subtle herbal lift. The finish is persistent and silky, with lingering dark fruit and well-integrated oak. Production
Finca Villacreces lies on a prized plateau in Ribera del Duero, where poor, gravelly and sandy soils sit over clay and limestone, forcing the vines to dig deep and naturally limiting yields. The continental climate—hot days, cool nights and a marked seasonal temperature swing—helps achieve excellent ripeness while preserving freshness. The estate is planted predominantly to Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which add structure and aromatic complexity to the blend. Grapes are harvested parcel by parcel at optimal maturity, often by hand to allow careful selection in the vineyard and at the sorting table. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel, followed by malolactic fermentation and aging in mostly French oak barrels (with a touch of American oak, depending on the vintage) for around a year to 14 months, giving the wine its polished tannins and subtle, integrated spice.

This is a versatile, food-friendly Ribera del Duero that shines alongside richly flavored dishes. Think grilled or roasted lamb, dry-aged ribeye, Iberico pork, venison, or slow-braised beef cheeks. Decanting for 45–60 minutes will help open up the aromatics and soften the youthful tannins, especially in its first few years of life.
