Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2020 Hohenmorgen Grand Cru opens with a bright, pale straw color edged with green reflections, signaling both youth and freshness. The nose is precise and refined, offering layered aromas of ripe white peach, nectarine and citrus zest—think lemon and grapefruit—woven together with notes of wet stone, chalk, and a delicate floral lift. On the palate, the wine is dry, concentrated, and elegantly structured, with a vibrant 6.1 g/l of acidity giving it drive and clarity. Flavors of stone fruit, preserved lemon, and juicy citrus are underscored by a fine, almost salty minerality and a subtle, savoury depth from its time in wood. The texture is both silky and tensile, with 13% alcohol providing gentle weight without ever feeling heavy. The finish is very long, precise and refreshing, suggesting excellent aging potential. Production
The Hohenmorgen vineyard lies in the warm slope zone along a narrow limestone reef at the foot of the Mittelhaardt in the Pfalz, an area renowned for its exceptional Riesling terroirs. Dr. Bürklin-Wolf owns just 0.85 hectares of the 4-hectare site, where weathered red sandstone soils with limestone deposits impart both fullness and remarkable longevity to the wines. Farmed with meticulous attention to terroir expression and low yields, the Riesling grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve purity and precision. Fermentation takes place spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, allowing the character of the site to shine through, followed by maturation in traditional wooden casks. This careful, minimally interventionist approach results in a Grand Cru Riesling of depth, energy, and clear vineyard signature.

Food & Serving
This Hohenmorgen Grand Cru is a superb partner for refined, aromatic cuisine—think citrus-marinated seafood, scallops, and grilled prawns, as well as sushi and sashimi where its minerality complements the delicacy of raw fish. It pairs beautifully with fine white meats such as veal or free-range chicken in light cream or lemon-based sauces, and also works wonderfully with roasted root vegetables, asparagus, or subtly spiced Asian dishes (ginger, lemongrass, mild chili). Serve lightly chilled at around 9–11°C (48–52°F) to highlight its precision and complexity. Young bottles will benefit from 30–60 minutes in a decanter to allow the aromas to fully unfold; older vintages can be served directly after careful pouring.
