2020 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc Pessac-Léognan

The 2020 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is one of Pessac-Léognan’s most respected dry whites, admired for its precision, depth, and effortless balance. Blending Sauvignon Blanc with Sémillon, it captures the class of Bordeaux’s Left Bank in a style that is both vibrant in youth and capable of developing beautifully over time.

Tasting Notes
Pale straw in the glass, it shows remarkable brightness and purity. The nose is refined and complex, with notes of citrus zest, white peach, pear, fresh herbs, chalk, and a subtle hint of toasted almond and smoke. On the palate, it is precise and layered, combining lively acidity with a supple, textured core. Flavors of grapefruit, green apple, stone fruit, and wet stone unfold gradually, leading to a long, mineral finish. This is a white Bordeaux with excellent aging potential, and it should gain even more complexity with several years in bottle.

Production
Domaine de Chevalier’s vineyards lie on deep gravel soils over clay and sand in Pessac-Léognan, giving the wine both aromatic lift and mineral structure. The grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, with careful sorting to preserve purity and freshness. Vinification is carried out with precision, typically including cool fermentation and ageing on lees, often in French oak barrels, to build texture without masking the wine’s natural energy.

Food & Serving
This wine is an excellent match for oysters, grilled white fish, lobster, scallops, and poultry with creamy sauces. It also pairs beautifully with goat’s cheese and delicate vegetable dishes. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C, and consider decanting briefly if drinking young to help it open up in the glass.
