Description

2020 Château Tronquoy Tronquoy Blanc is a refined white Bordeaux that shows just how expressive this classic region can be in the right hands. Crafted at the historic Château Tronquoy estate in the Médoc, it brings together freshness, texture and complexity in a beautifully balanced style. This limited-production cuvée offers a more contemporary, vibrant take on white Bordeaux while still rooted firmly in tradition.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2020 Tronquoy Tronquoy Blanc typically shines a pale straw to light gold, with brilliant clarity and youthful green reflections. The nose is lively and aromatic, suggesting citrus zest, white peach and crisp green apple, layered with notes of freshly cut herbs, subtle floral tones and a gentle touch of wet stone or chalky minerality. On the palate, expect a medium-bodied white with a bright, mouthwatering acidity that keeps everything feeling precise and energetic. Flavors of lemon, grapefruit and stone fruit are joined by hints of gooseberry, fennel and a delicate creaminess from careful élevage. The finish is clean, saline and persistent, leaving a refreshing impression that invites another sip. While it drinks beautifully in its youth for its vibrancy and fruit purity, it should also develop added nuance over the next 3–6 years, gaining complexity in its herbal and mineral notes.

Production
Château Tronquoy is located in the northern Médoc, where gravelly, well-drained soils over clay and limestone provide an excellent terroir not only for red varieties but also for white grapes such as Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. The maritime climate, moderated by the nearby Gironde estuary and Atlantic influences, promotes slow, even ripening and preserves acidity. Grapes are typically picked parcel by parcel at optimal maturity, often by hand, to maintain pristine fruit quality. In the cellar, gentle pressing and cool, controlled fermentations in stainless steel and/or oak help capture aromatic intensity while building texture. A period of aging on fine lees, with occasional bâtonnage, contributes to the wine’s subtle creaminess, depth and length without sacrificing its tension and freshness.

Food & Serving
This 2020 white Bordeaux is a versatile companion at the table, pairing beautifully with seafood—think oysters, scallops, grilled prawns or simply prepared white fish—as well as roast chicken, ceviche, sushi, and fresh goat or soft cheeses. It also works wonderfully with herb-driven dishes such as lemon and thyme roast poultry, asparagus risotto or salads with citrus dressings. Serve well-chilled but not icy, ideally around 9–11°C (48–52°F), to let its aromatics fully open. Decanting is not essential, but pouring it into a larger glass and giving it a few minutes in the glass will help reveal its more subtle mineral and herbal layers.

Producer
Château Tronquoy is a long-established Médoc estate in Bordeaux, with roots dating back to the 18th century. Historically associated with high-quality, classically styled reds, the property has, in recent years, invested heavily in both vineyard and cellar upgrades, bringing renewed energy and precision to its wines. The introduction and refinement of its white cuvées, such as Tronquoy Tronquoy Blanc, reflect a broader movement in Bordeaux to highlight the region’s potential for characterful, terroir-driven white wines. Today, Château Tronquoy is regarded as a rising star of the northern Médoc, known for producing wines that combine traditional Bordelais structure with modern clarity and drinkability.
