Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby-purple colour with excellent concentration. The nose is refined and layered, combining blackcurrant, dark cherry, cedar, graphite, violets, and subtle spice, with a polished oak nuance in the background. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with ripe dark fruit, finely structured tannins, and a fresh, mineral-driven line that gives balance and length. Compared with the grand vin, Le Petit Mouton is often a touch more open and supple in youth, yet it still has the depth to develop beautifully over time. The 2020 vintage should age gracefully for many years, especially in magnum format.

Production
Sourced from the Pauillac terroir of Bordeaux, the wine comes from gravelly soils that naturally favour Cabernet Sauvignon by providing excellent drainage and encouraging low-yield, concentrated fruit. Grapes are harvested with care and selected rigorously to maintain quality, then vinified with the precision associated with Château Mouton Rothschild. The second wine is crafted to express the estate’s signature character while offering a slightly earlier-drinking style than the grand vin.

Food & Serving
This is a superb match for roasted lamb, beef fillet, duck breast, game birds, and rich mushroom dishes. It also pairs well with aged hard cheeses and classic Bordeaux-inspired cuisine. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if opening young, especially from magnum, to allow the wine to fully unfold.
