This mix of gravel, which brings finesse and aromatic lift, and rich clay, which lends power and depth, is particularly well-suited to Merlot, the dominant grape here, with smaller proportions of Cabernet Franc adding structure and complexity. Harvesting is carried out parcel by parcel, typically by hand, to ensure optimal ripeness and selection of only the best clusters. In the cellar, the grapes are carefully sorted and vinified in temperature-controlled vats, with gentle extraction to preserve elegance and purity of fruit. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels—typically with a significant but judicious proportion of new oak—to refine its tannins, build texture and add subtle layers of spice and toast, all while maintaining the clarity of the fruit and the signature Pomerol character.
