Description
2020 Château Duhart-Milon Pauillac Grand Cru Classé is a classic Left Bank Bordeaux from one of Pauillac’s most respected estates. It offers the structure, depth, and Cabernet-driven character collectors look for, with the refinement and pedigree expected from a Grand Cru Classé. As a historic neighbor of Lafite Rothschild, it carries a strong sense of place and prestige.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine is typically deep ruby in color, with a refined yet powerful profile. Expect aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, graphite, tobacco, and subtle floral and spice notes, all underscored by Pauillac’s signature mineral edge.
The palate is firm and layered, with concentrated dark fruit, ripe tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, elegant finish. The 2020 vintage should show both precision and structure, making it highly suitable for cellaring; it will likely benefit from several years of bottle age and continue to evolve over the next decade or more.
Production
Château Duhart-Milon is located in the Pauillac appellation on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, where gravelly soils and a temperate maritime climate favor Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The vineyards benefit from excellent drainage and heat retention, helping the grapes ripen slowly and evenly. Harvesting is carried out with careful selection, and vinification is conducted to preserve purity, structure, and the estate’s classic Pauillac identity.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, grilled ribeye, duck breast, game, and rich mushroom dishes. Serve at around 16-18°C, and decant for 1-2 hours if opening young to allow the aromas and tannins to open up. It is an excellent choice for a special dinner or for laying down in the cellar.
Producer
Château Duhart-Milon has long been associated with the great names of Pauillac and is closely linked to the Lafite Rothschild family, which has helped maintain its standing among the commune’s top estates. Recognized as a Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 Classification, the château is known for producing wines of elegance, structure, and longevity. Its reputation is built on consistency and a deeply rooted connection to the Pauillac terroir.
