Description

Bottled in an impressive 3-liter Jeroboam, the 2020 Bruno Colin Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Boudriotte is a striking expression of white Burgundy that’s made for the table as much as for the cellar. This is a premier cru Chardonnay that marries precision and richness, showcasing the finesse of one of Chassagne-Montrachet’s most respected terroirs. The large format amplifies its aging potential, offering a truly celebratory bottle for serious collectors and lovers of great white Burgundy.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine shows a luminous, pale gold color with subtle green reflections, hinting at both youth and freshness. The nose is refined yet generous, opening with aromas of white peach, ripe pear, and lemon zest, layered with notes of acacia blossom, toasted hazelnut, and a delicate touch of vanilla and fresh brioche from its élevage in oak. On the palate, the 2020 La Boudriotte is precise, vibrant, and beautifully textured. A core of stone fruit and citrus is wrapped in a fine, chalky minerality and well-integrated oak spice, giving both depth and definition. The acidity is lively but balanced, providing tension without sharpness, and leading into a long, saline finish with hints of almond and subtle smoke. In Jeroboam, this wine will evolve gracefully over 10–15 years or more, gaining complexity, creaminess, and tertiary notes of honey, nuts, and dried flowers with time.

Production
La Boudriotte is a premier cru climat in Chassagne-Montrachet, marked by well-drained limestone and clay soils that give Chardonnay both richness and mineral drive. Bruno Colin farms these vineyards with meticulous attention, focusing on careful canopy management and moderate yields to achieve optimal ripeness and concentration. Grapes are picked by hand at ideal maturity, sorted thoroughly, and gently pressed to preserve purity. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, with a thoughtful proportion of new oak to frame the fruit rather than dominate it. The wine then matures on fine lees, with periodic bâtonnage as appropriate to the vintage, building texture and complexity while retaining a precise, terroir-driven character.

Food & Serving
This Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru is a superb match for refined seafood dishes such as butter-poached lobster, scallops, turbot, or sole in a beurre blanc, as well as roast chicken with morels, creamy poultry dishes, or veal in a light cream sauce. It also shines alongside fine cheeses like Comté, aged Gruyère, or mild, creamy cow’s milk cheeses. Serve at around 10–12°C (50–54°F); slightly cooler for an aperitif style, and closer to 12°C for full aromatic expression at the table. Given the concentration and youth of the 2020 vintage, decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended, especially from Jeroboam, to allow the wine to open and reveal its full complexity.

Producer
Bruno Colin hails from one of the great winemaking families of Chassagne-Montrachet and has quickly established his own domaine as a benchmark for contemporary white Burgundy. Having split from the historic Colin-Deléger estate, Bruno has built a strong reputation for wines that combine classic Burgundian depth with a precise, modern touch. His holdings span many of the Côte de Beaune’s top appellations, with particular strength in Chassagne-Montrachet, where he is regarded as a leading interpreter of its diverse premier cru terroirs. Known for his meticulous vineyard work and sensitive use of oak, Bruno Colin consistently produces wines that are highly regarded by critics and collectors, underscoring his significance in the region’s current generation of elite producers.
