Description

2019 Viñedo Chadwick is one of Chile’s true icon wines – a pure, classic expression of Cabernet Sauvignon from the revered Puente Alto zone in the Maipo Valley. From a moderately warm vintage that delivered remarkable freshness and just 13% alcohol, this limited-production red marries power, finesse and precision in equal measure. Long celebrated in blind tastings against top Bordeaux grands crus, it has earned stellar scores from leading critics and a reputation as one of the finest Cabernet-based wines in the world.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2019 Viñedo Chadwick shows a deep cherry-red core with a vibrant purple rim, signaling both concentration and youth. With a little air, the bouquet unfolds in layers: ripe blueberries and wild strawberries are interwoven with notes of tobacco leaf, freshly roasted coffee beans, dark chocolate, black truffle, cedar wood and a twist of black pepper. The oak is perfectly judged, adding complexity without overwhelming the fruit. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet supremely elegant, with precise, pure fruit flavours echoing the nose – blue and red berries, cassis and a touch of caramel from the lengthy barrel aging. Fine-grained, chalky tannins give structure and a long, grandiose finish, where power is wrapped in refinement and subtlety. A vibrant line of acidity keeps everything fresh and poised. Still youthful, the 2019 has excellent aging potential; over the next 10–20 years it will gain further complexity, with the tertiary notes of tobacco, leather and truffle becoming even more pronounced.

Production
Viñedo Chadwick comes from a single 15-hectare vineyard in Puente Alto, one of Maipo’s coolest and most celebrated subregions, with gravelly, alluvial soils that recall the best terroirs of the Left Bank in Bordeaux. Planted in 1992, these low-yielding vines – predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with around 3% Petit Verdot – are carefully managed and picked at optimal ripeness to preserve freshness and aromatic purity. Fermentation takes place in equal parts stainless-steel tanks and concrete or tronco-conical vats, allowing for gentle extraction and fine tannin texture. Three-quarters of the wine is then aged for 22 months in new French oak barriques, with the remaining quarter matured in large Stockinger foudres; malolactic fermentation occurs during this élevage, integrating oak and fruit and contributing to the wine’s silk-smooth profile.

Food & Serving
This is a Cabernet of precision and depth, ideal for refined, protein-rich dishes. Think dry-aged ribeye or Chateaubriand, roast lamb with rosemary, slow-braised short ribs, or venison with truffle jus; it also pairs beautifully with dishes featuring wild mushrooms, black truffle, or high-cocoa dark chocolate. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight its aromatic complexity and freshness. Decanting is strongly recommended, especially in its youth: give it 1–2 hours in a decanter to allow the aromatic layers of fruit, spice, cedar and tobacco to fully emerge.

Producer
Viñedo Chadwick is the personal estate of Eduardo Chadwick, the visionary behind Chilean benchmark wines such as Errázuriz and Seña. Located in Puente Alto in the Maipo Valley, this is his only vineyard dedicated exclusively to producing one wine: a world-class, single-vineyard Cabernet that can stand alongside the greatest wines of Bordeaux and beyond. Over the years, Viñedo Chadwick has triumphed in high-profile blind tastings against Premier Grand Crus and has consistently earned top ratings from critics, including 97 points from Robert Parker and 99 points from top international reviewers. The wine’s global distribution through the Place de Bordeaux further underlines its status as one of Chile’s most collectible and prestigious reds.
