Description

The 2019 Vérité Assortment Case is a collector’s dream: three legendary Sonoma County reds, each a singular expression of Bordeaux-inspired blending at the highest level. This mixed case contains one bottle each of Le Désir, La Muse and La Joie – all from the outstanding 2019 vintage and all among the most critically acclaimed wines in California. With perfect and near‑perfect scores from Wine Advocate and James Suckling, this curated trio is ideal for the serious enthusiast, long‑term cellaring, or a blue‑chip addition to a fine wine portfolio. Created by the visionary partnership of Jess Jackson (Kendall‑Jackson) and Bordeaux master vigneron Pierre Seillan, Vérité was founded in the 1990s with a bold aim: to craft small‑production, terroir‑driven blends in Sonoma that could stand alongside – and often surpass – the greatest wines of Bordeaux. The 2019 vintage continues this legacy at an exceptional level, and with no 2020 Vérité release, this assortment has added rarity and historical significance.

Tasting Notes
Each of the three wines in the 2019 Vérité Assortment Case offers its own distinct personality while sharing a common thread of precision, depth and energy. Le Désir 2019 (Cabernet Franc‑dominant: 83% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot, 5% Malbec, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon – 100/100 Wine Advocate, 100/100 James Suckling) shows an opaque, deep ruby‑purple hue in the glass. The nose unfurls in layers: Morello cherry, warm dark chocolate, dried thyme, rose petals, and a subtle dried herb complexity that expands with air. On the palate it is full‑bodied yet supremely detailed, with concentrated, floral‑inflected dark fruit framed by incredibly fine, pixelated tannins. Fresh, vibrant acidity carries a very long, multi‑layered finish, revealing new nuances with every sip. La Muse 2019 (Merlot‑dominant: 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec – 99/100 Wine Advocate, 99/100 James Suckling) is deep ruby‑purple and immediately seductive. Aromas of ripe black plums and cassis mingle with violets, anise, tobacco, thyme and a mineral, iron‑tinged undertone. The palate is powerful yet velvety, with ample, polished tannins and a plush core of dark, creamy fruit. Despite its richness, the wine is remarkably focused and lifted, with a sense of elegance and “weightless power” that points to a long life ahead. La Joie 2019 (Cabernet Sauvignon‑dominant: 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot – 99/100 Wine Advocate) offers a deep, saturated ruby colour and a more graphite‑and‑flower driven profile. Black cherry and blueberry aromas are interlaced with violet, freshly ground coffee, licorice and a captivating ferrous, iron note. On the palate it is full‑bodied and structurally impressive, with generous but fine‑grained, almost “grainy” tannins, detailed, perfumed flavours and bright acidity. The finish is long, complex and savory, with that signature mineral edge lingering. All three 2019s are built for longevity. While they can be approached young with sufficient decanting, the structure and concentration suggest an aging curve of 15–25+ years in a proper cellar, with Le Désir and La Joie in particular promising decades of evolution, and La Muse gaining even more plush complexity and truffle‑like nuances over time.

Production
Vérité sources fruit from meticulously selected hillside and mountain vineyards across Sonoma County, where varied elevations, exposures and soils echo the complexity of Bordeaux’s finest terroirs. Gravelly, volcanic and clay‑rich parcels are farmed according to Pierre Seillan’s “micro‑cru” philosophy, treating each block as its own individual vineyard with tailored viticulture to maximize expression. Harvest is carried out by hand, often in multiple passes, to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy clusters are selected. In the winery, each micro‑parcel is vinified separately in small lots, allowing Seillan and now his daughter Hélène to refine the eventual blends with absolute precision. Fermentations are carefully controlled to preserve aromatic purity and fine tannin texture, followed by élevage in high‑quality French oak barrels (a significant proportion new), where each component is aged and assessed before the final assemblage into Le Désir, La Muse and La Joie. The result is three distinct, low‑production wines that embody both Old World sensibility and New World terroir.

Food & Serving
This assortment case invites thoughtful food pairings tailored to each cuvée. Le Désir, driven by Cabernet Franc, is superb with herb‑crusted lamb, roast duck, dishes with savory herbs (thyme, rosemary, sage), and refined game birds; its floral and herbal complexity also works beautifully with truffle‑inflected cuisine and earthy mushroom dishes. La Muse, with its Merlot core and velvety texture, shines alongside tender cuts of beef (filet mignon, tournedos Rossini), braised short ribs, slow‑cooked veal, rich poultry dishes, and aged hard cheeses. La Joie, the most classically Cabernet Sauvignon in structure, is ideal with grilled or roasted beef, prime rib, venison, and dishes featuring roasted root vegetables or black pepper sauces. Serve these wines at 16–18°C (60–64°F). For current drinking, decant generously: 1.5–2 hours for La Muse, 2–3 hours for Le Désir and La Joie to allow the aromatics and structure to fully open. In their maturity (10+ years from vintage), a gentle 45–60 minute decant is typically sufficient, primarily for sediment and to let mature bouquet develop in the glass.

Producer
Vérité was founded in the late 1990s through the meeting of California wine pioneer Jess Jackson and Bordeaux‑born winemaker Pierre Seillan. After a distinguished career crafting wines at several châteaux in Bordeaux, including Château Lassègue, Seillan felt constrained by the region’s strict regulations and saw in Sonoma the freedom to apply his deep knowledge of Bordeaux varieties to new, diverse terroirs. With Vérité, he introduced his signature “micro‑cru” approach, vinifying numerous small, distinct parcels separately and blending them into three grand vins: the Cabernet Franc‑driven Le Désir, the Merlot‑led La Muse, and the Cabernet Sauvignon‑based La Joie. Over the years, Vérité has become a benchmark estate not just for Sonoma but for all of North America, regularly earning 100‑point scores and commanding respect on the global fine‑wine stage. Today, Pierre is in the process of passing the reins to his daughter Hélène Seillan, ensuring continuity of style and an ongoing legacy of precision, artistry and terroir‑driven excellence.
