Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2019 Redigaffi is intensely concentrated, with an opaque, inky ruby core fading to a deep garnet rim. The nose is beautifully expressive and layered: ripe black plum, blackberry and black cherry are wrapped in nuances of violet, cocoa, espresso, tobacco leaf, leather and a subtle hint of tar and graphite. Gentle notes of sweet baking spice, vanilla, and cedar from top-quality oak frame the rich fruit without overwhelming it. On the palate, this is full-bodied, broad and enveloping, with a velvety texture and remarkable depth. Ripe black fruits are supported by firm yet polished tannins and a vibrant line of acidity that keeps the wine precise and energetic. Flavors of dark chocolate, licorice, warm earth and savory spice unfold in slow, complex layers, leading to a very long, persistent finish. The 2019 vintage combines generosity and structure, making it approachable in youth after adequate aeration, but clearly built to age. In magnum, it has excellent aging potential—expect it to evolve beautifully over 15–25 years, gaining even more complexity and tertiary notes of truffle, cigar box and dried flowers.

Production
Redigaffi is sourced from meticulously tended Merlot vines surrounding the Tua Rita estate in Suvereto, on Tuscany’s coastal strip. The terroir here is marked by mineral-rich soils with clay, pebbles and traces of metal oxides, which naturally limit yields and concentrate flavor, while Mediterranean breezes and strong diurnal temperature shifts preserve freshness and aromatic intensity. Grapes are typically hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, with strict selection in the vineyard and again in the cellar to ensure only perfectly healthy, fully ripe berries are used. Vinification emphasizes both richness and precision: fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vessels, with gentle extraction to build structure and texture without harshness. The wine is then aged in fine French oak barriques (a significant proportion new), where it gains additional complexity, polish, and its signature blend of dark fruit, spice and luxurious mouthfeel before bottling in magnum.

Food & Serving
This opulent Merlot pairs wonderfully with richly flavored dishes such as slow-braised beef cheeks, ossobuco, roasted lamb with rosemary, venison, or aged cuts of bistecca alla fiorentina. It also complements truffle dishes, wild mushroom ragù, and hard, mature cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano or aged Pecorino Toscano. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to let the aromatics fully open. Given its youth and concentration, the 2019 Redigaffi Magnum benefits greatly from decanting—allow at least 2–3 hours in a large decanter if drinking now to soften the tannins and reveal its full aromatic range.

What began as a modest family project quickly developed into one of Tuscany’s most acclaimed estates, thanks to obsessive attention to detail in the vineyard and an unwavering pursuit of quality. Over the years, the vineyard area has expanded to around 30 hectares, while the reputation of Tua Rita’s wines—especially Redigaffi—has soared, with international critics awarding multiple top scores, including 100 points from Robert Parker in earlier vintages. Today, the estate is run by their daughter Simena and her husband Stefano Frascolla, who have successfully carried the torch, cementing Tua Rita’s status as a reference point for Suvereto and a leading name in the world of Italian fine wine.
