Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2019 Per Sempre Syrah is nearly opaque, with a dense, inky purple-black core and a deep, vibrant rim that hints at its youth and concentration. The nose is intense and layered, offering a cascade of black fruits—blackcurrant, blackberry, and black plum—interlaced with notes of freshly cracked black pepper, tar, and graphite, along with subtle hints of violets, smoked meat, and dark chocolate as it opens in the glass. On the palate, this is a mouth-filling, full-bodied red with great impact and precision. The black fruit core is framed by firm, ripe tannins and a solid, architectural structure that gives the wine both power and poise. Spicy and savory elements—pepper, licorice, a touch of game and mineral-laced earth—carry through into a long, persistent, and decidedly powerful finish. Despite its richness, there is good freshness and lift, suggesting excellent aging potential. Production
Per Sempre Syrah is sourced from Tua Rita’s estate vineyards around Suvereto, in the coastal Maremma zone of Tuscany, where clay- and gravel-rich soils, mineral subsoils and maritime breezes create ideal conditions for Syrah. The Mediterranean climate ensures warm, sunny days and cooling nights, allowing the grapes to achieve full phenolic ripeness while retaining freshness. Yields are kept deliberately low, with careful, often manual, selection of bunches both in the vineyard and at the sorting table to ensure only perfectly ripe fruit is used. The Syrah is vinified in temperature-controlled tanks, with a focus on gentle extraction to capture color, structure and aromatic complexity without harshness. It is then aged in high-quality oak barriques (predominantly French), where it gains additional texture, spice, and depth before being bottled in limited quantities.

Food & Serving
This is a commanding red best suited to richly flavored dishes. It pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted red meats—especially lamb, beef ribeye or venison—slow-braised short ribs, game birds, and dishes with a peppery or smoky element. It also works well alongside aged hard cheeses, truffle dishes, and hearty Tuscan fare like wild boar ragù. Serve at 16–18°C (about 60–64°F) for optimal balance and expression. Given its youth and structure, decanting for 1–2 hours before serving is strongly recommended to allow the wine to unfurl its complex aromatics and soften the tannins.

Tua Rita was founded in 1984 when Rita Tua and her husband Virgilio purchased a small property with just two hectares of vines in Suvereto, on Tuscany’s Tyrrhenian coast. What began as a modest project quickly turned into one of Italy’s most celebrated boutique estates, as their meticulous vineyard work and uncompromising standards propelled Tua Rita to cult status in the 1990s and 2000s. Over time the estate has expanded to around 30 hectares, yet production remains focused on quality and character rather than volume. After Virgilio’s passing in 2010, their daughter Simena and her husband Stefano Frascolla took over the daily management, continuing the family’s pursuit of excellence. Today, Tua Rita is recognized globally as a pioneer of high-end “Supertuscan” reds and a benchmark producer in the Maremma, with Per Sempre Syrah standing among its most distinctive and critically acclaimed wines.
