Description

The 2019 Trimbach Grand Cru Brand Riesling is a precise, dry and mineral-driven expression of one of Alsace’s most revered vineyards. Sourced from the sun-drenched Brand Grand Cru, this wine showcases Riesling at its most refined and ageworthy. It brings together Trimbach’s centuries-old craftsmanship with the unique granitic terroir that has made Brand famous since at least the Middle Ages.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2019 Grand Cru Brand Riesling is pale lemon with bright, silvery reflections, hinting at both youth and tension. The nose is pure and focused, opening with fresh citrus—lime, grapefruit zest and lemon peel—before evolving into white peach, green apple and ripe pear. Underneath the fruit sits a spine of cool granite minerality, with notes of wet stone, smoke and a whisper of white flowers and herbs. On the palate, the wine is dry, linear and tightly wound, with high, crystalline acidity that carries the flavors long across the tongue. Citrus and stone fruit are layered with saline, stony nuances, giving the wine a striking precision and energy. The structure is firm and elegant, with a clean, almost chiselled finish that lingers with citrus oils, crushed rock and a hint of spice. Still youthful in 2019, this Grand Cru has excellent aging potential: 10–15 years or more in a good cellar, during which it will gain complexity, texture and gentle notes of honey, wax and petrol while retaining its core freshness.

Production
The Grand Cru Brand vineyard sits on steep, south- and southeast-facing slopes above the village of Turckheim in Alsace, rooted in light, warm granite soils that are famed for producing intensely mineral, racy Rieslings. The combination of abundant sunshine, good drainage and the shelter of the Vosges Mountains creates a warm, dry microclimate that allows Riesling to ripen fully while preserving acidity. Trimbach harvests by hand to ensure optimal selection of healthy, perfectly ripe grapes, often picking parcel by parcel to capture ideal maturity. In the cellar, the must is gently pressed and fermented in temperature-controlled vats with a focus on preserving purity, dryness and terroir character. The wine is then aged on fine lees—traditionally in inert large oak foudres or stainless steel—before bottling, with no oak flavoring, allowing the granitic Brand terroir and Riesling’s natural precision to take center stage.

Food & Serving
This Grand Cru Riesling is a superb partner for refined, aromatic dishes: think grilled or poached white fish, scallops, langoustines, or lobster served with citrus or beurre blanc sauces. It also pairs beautifully with sushi and sashimi, ceviche, lightly spiced Asian cuisine, poultry in cream or morel sauces, and high-quality Alsatian specialties like choucroute de la mer. Its structure and acidity make it an excellent match for semi-soft or aged cheeses such as Comté, aged Gruyère or mature goat cheeses. Serve chilled but not too cold, ideally around 9–11°C (48–52°F), to allow the aromatics to unfold. Young bottles benefit from 30–45 minutes in a decanter to open up the nose and soften the edges of the acidity, especially if served within the first few years after the vintage.

Producer
The Trimbach family has been crafting wine in Alsace since 1626, making it one of the region’s most storied and respected domaines. Based in Ribeauvillé, the estate has built an international reputation for its dry, focused and ageworthy white wines, especially Riesling. Over generations, Trimbach has championed a style that emphasizes purity, structure and minerality rather than sweetness, helping to define the modern perception of Alsace Riesling worldwide. Their top wines from great sites such as Clos Ste Hune and Grand Cru vineyards like Brand regularly feature in the cellars of collectors and on the lists of leading restaurants. Today, the family continues to steward some of Alsace’s finest terroirs, combining traditional know-how with meticulous vineyard work to produce wines that are benchmarks for the region.
