Description
The 2019 Trilogie Château Margaux Case is a rare opportunity to experience one of Bordeaux’s most extraordinary vintages through all three of the estate’s flagship wines. Presented in a beautifully crafted, limited-edition case, it brings together three bottles of Château Margaux, two bottles of Pavillon Rouge and one bottle of Pavillon Blanc to offer a complete, cellar‑worthy snapshot of 2019 at this First Growth icon. With only 1,000 cases produced worldwide, this is both a collector’s piece and a deeply rewarding tasting journey into the heart of Margaux.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the reds—Château Margaux and Pavillon Rouge—show a deep, vibrant garnet-purple hue, signaling both concentration and freshness, while Pavillon Blanc gleams a pale straw-gold with luminous clarity. The bouquet of Château Margaux 2019 is intensely perfumed and layered: crushed blackberries, warm cassis and plum conserve mingle with iris, rose petals, star anise, black truffle, moist earth and a distinct mineral note of cracked stone. Pavillon Rouge opens more slowly but reveals aromas of Morello cherry, boysenberry and ripe cassis, lifted by hints of tar, black licorice, cracked pepper and a subtle smokiness over forest floor. Pavillon Blanc is strikingly pure and aromatic, with scents of Bosc pear, white peach and Golden Delicious apple woven with notes of almond, lemongrass, chalk dust and a delicate jasmine florality.
On the palate, Château Margaux 2019 is medium-bodied yet stunningly intense, vibrating with energy. Layers of dark, perfumed fruit are wrapped in superfine, ripe tannins and driven by a lively mineral freshness, building towards an exceptionally long, precise and graceful finish. Pavillon Rouge 2019 is equally refined, offering medium body, beautifully ripe, supple tannins and an impressive line of acidity that lifts its black fruit and savory, earthy nuances, finishing long, elegant and refreshingly pure. Pavillon Blanc 2019 is light to medium-bodied with a bright, zesty spine of acidity that frames its citrus and stone-fruit core, gliding into a long, mineral-etched finish. The reds will reward extended aging—20+ years for Château Margaux and 10–15 years for Pavillon Rouge—while Pavillon Blanc, though delicious young, will develop added complexity over 5–10 years in bottle.
Production
Sourced from the historic vineyards of Château Margaux in the heart of the Margaux appellation in Bordeaux, the 2019 Trilogie reflects a terroir of deep gravel soils over limestone and clay, perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc alike. The estate practices meticulous, parcel-by-parcel vineyard management, with careful green harvesting and hand-picking at optimal ripeness to preserve both aromatic purity and structural finesse. In 2019, Château Margaux is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot from the choicest plots, while Pavillon Rouge (76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot) is crafted from rigorously selected lots that did not make the grand vin but still express the estate’s signature elegance. Pavillon Blanc is produced exclusively from 100% Sauvignon Blanc, sourced from dedicated white-wine parcels. Each cuvée undergoes precision vinification in temperature-controlled vats, followed by élevage in French oak barrels, with the proportion of new oak and time in barrel tailored to the character of each wine to balance concentration, finesse and freshness. The limited-edition case itself features a special embossing technique, highlighting the Château Margaux logo in gold relief with the “La Trilogie 2019” inscription, underlining the care given from vineyard to final presentation.
Food & Serving
This case invites both comparative tastings and thoughtful food pairings. Château Margaux 2019 is superb with refined dishes such as roast lamb with herbs, dry-aged ribeye, venison, beef Wellington, or classic French cuisine like pigeon, truffled poultry and rich mushroom dishes. Pavillon Rouge 2019 shines with slightly more relaxed pairings—chargrilled meats, duck breast, roasted veal, game birds, or hearty dishes featuring wild mushrooms and root vegetables. Pavillon Blanc 2019 is ideal as an aperitif or alongside seafood carpaccio, oysters, shellfish, grilled fish, goat’s cheese, lightly spiced Asian cuisine and dishes with citrus or herb accents. Serve the reds at 16–18°C (60–64°F), decanting Château Margaux for 2–3 hours and Pavillon Rouge for 1–2 hours in their youth to allow the aromatics to unfold. Serve Pavillon Blanc well chilled at 8–10°C (46–50°F), in fine white-wine glasses, and avoid over-chilling so its delicate fruit and floral nuances can fully express themselves.
Producer
Château Margaux is one of Bordeaux’s most storied estates and a First Growth of the 1855 Classification, renowned worldwide for producing some of the most elegant and age-worthy wines of the Médoc. With a history stretching back to the 16th century, the estate has long been a benchmark for the Margaux appellation, combining exceptional terroir with a culture of precision and innovation in both vineyard and cellar. Under modern stewardship, Château Margaux has continued to refine its style, emphasizing purity, aromatic complexity and finesse over sheer power, while investing in cutting-edge facilities and rigorous selection to maintain uncompromising quality. The creation of the 2019 “La Trilogie” limited edition—uniting Château Margaux, Pavillon Rouge and Pavillon Blanc in a single, beautifully crafted case—highlights the estate’s position as both guardian of tradition and thoughtful curator of truly collectible, world-class wines.
