Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine shows an intense, vibrant purple hue, hinting at its concentration and youthful energy. The nose opens with expressive aromas of black cherry and ripe red currant layered with notes of anise, lavender, and a touch of sweet baking spice from extended oak aging. On the palate, Torcia is generous yet structured, with flavors of fig, candied plum, and dark berries supported by youthful tannins that give the wine a lively, broad texture. The oak influence adds subtle tones of vanilla, cocoa, and toast without overwhelming the fruit. The finish is long, with lingering spice and floral notes, suggesting excellent aging potential. Production
Torcia is sourced from select Napa Valley vineyards farmed by Rutherford Ranch, benefiting from the region’s classic mix of warm, sun-drenched days, cool evenings, and well-drained soils that favor intensely flavored, balanced fruit. The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness to capture depth of flavor while retaining freshness. After fermentation, the wine is matured for 24 months in a carefully chosen combination of French and American oak barrels, building complexity and structure, and then further refined with at least 6 months of bottle aging before release. Average production is around 5,000 bottles, underscoring its boutique, small-lot character.
