Description
The 2019 Domaine Serene Pinot Noir ‘Yamhill Cuvée’ is a refined, terroir-driven expression of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, crafted by one of Oregon’s most acclaimed producers. Blending fruit from several of Domaine Serene’s top estate vineyards, it delivers both elegance and consistency, vintage after vintage. Named for Yamhill County, where the estate’s holdings are centered, this cuvée captures the finesse and complexity that have made Domaine Serene a benchmark for American Pinot Noir since 1990.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2019 ‘Yamhill Cuvée’ shows a bright, translucent ruby hue that hints at freshness and precision. The nose is lifted and perfumed, with a bouquet of dried rose petals, brandied cherry, pomegranate seeds and red currant, layered with subtle notes of dried lavender, fresh rosemary and a touch of vanilla spice.
On the palate, the wine is vibrant yet finely knit, with a lively, mouthwatering acidity that frames pure red berry and cherry fruit. The texture is silky but supported by polished, well-integrated oak and gentle, refined wood tannins that provide structure without heaviness. Savory herbal tones and a whisper of baking spice add depth, leading into a long, harmonious finish that lingers with floral and mineral notes. Enjoy now for its youthful energy, or cellar for 5–8 years to gain additional complexity and softness.
Production
The fruit for the 2019 ‘Yamhill Cuvée’ is sourced from Domaine Serene’s key estate vineyards across the Yamhill-Carlton, Dundee Hills and Eola–Amity Hills AVAs in Oregon’s Willamette Valley—sites known for their cool climate, volcanic and marine sedimentary soils, and ideal conditions for slow, even ripening of Pinot Noir. Grapes are carefully hand-harvested at optimal ripeness and sorted to ensure only pristine clusters make it to the winery. Vinification is classically Burgundian in spirit, with gentle destemming, cold maceration and controlled fermentations designed to preserve delicate aromatics and fine tannin. The wine is then aged in French oak barriques, a portion of which are new, to add texture and complexity while maintaining balance, purity of fruit and a clear expression of terroir.
Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir is wonderfully versatile at the table and pairs beautifully with dishes that echo its finesse rather than overpower it. Think roast chicken with herbs, grilled salmon or tuna, duck breast with a cherry or pomegranate glaze, mushroom risotto, or lightly spiced lamb dishes. It also complements earthy vegetable preparations such as roasted root vegetables and wild mushroom tarts. Serve at 14–16°C (57–61°F) for optimal expression; a brief 30–45 minute decant can help the aromatics unfurl and the palate to fully integrate, especially in its youth.
Producer
Founded in 1990 by Grace and Ken Evenstad, Domaine Serene has become one of Oregon’s most celebrated estates, renowned for producing world‑class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The winery has earned global acclaim, with Evenstad Reserve Pinot Noir named the world’s #3 wine by Wine Spectator in 2013, the 2012 Winery Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir recognized by Decanter as the top Pinot Noir in the world in 2016, and Evenstad Reserve Chardonnay achieving a #2 Wine Spectator Top 100 ranking—making Domaine Serene the only winery ever to secure Top 3 positions in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 for both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Their relentless pursuit of quality and innovation has positioned them as a leading voice in the Willamette Valley and deepened their ties to Burgundy through the acquisition of Château de la Crée and Domaine Christian Confuron & Fils. Today, Domaine Serene is widely regarded as a reference point for elegant, ageworthy Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Oregon.
