Description

The 2019 Domaine Serene Chardonnay Evenstad Reserve is one of Oregon’s benchmark Chardonnays, crafted to stand shoulder to shoulder with the great whites of Burgundy. Sourced from high-elevation vineyards in Dundee Hills, this cuvée is the flagship white of one of America’s most decorated estates. With multiple 94–96 point scores and a track record of global acclaim, it’s a cellar-worthy Chardonnay that marries New World generosity with Old World precision.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2019 Evenstad Reserve Chardonnay is a bright, luminous straw-gold with green highlights, hinting at both concentration and freshness. The nose opens with an enticing tropical spectrum of ripe kiwi and yellow peach, layered with white flowers, citrus zest and a delicate creaminess from its time in oak. On the palate, the wine is supple yet tightly knit, showing impressive texture without heaviness. Juicy, fleshy pears and white peaches are interwoven with toasted hazelnut, subtle brioche and a fine, saline minerality. The oak is beautifully integrated, supporting rather than dominating the fruit, while a vibrant line of acidity keeps everything precise and mouthwatering. The finish is long, mineral and gently savory, with a lingering note of citrus peel and roasted nuts. Already beautifully expressive, this vintage has the structure and balance to evolve gracefully for 8–12 years from vintage, gaining further complexity and creaminess with time in bottle.

Production
The Evenstad Reserve Chardonnay is primarily sourced from Domaine Serene’s estate vineyards in the Dundee Hills AVA of Oregon’s Willamette Valley, an area often compared to Burgundy for its latitude, climate and soils. Here, high-elevation sites with well-drained, limestone-influenced and stony volcanic soils lend natural tension, minerality and finesse to Chardonnay. The domaine favors Dijon clones—much like in top Burgundian vineyards—carefully tended and typically hand-harvested at optimal ripeness to preserve freshness and aromatic detail. In the cellar, fruit is gently pressed and fermented in oak, with a significant proportion of French barrels (including a judicious use of new oak) to build texture and complexity. Extended lees contact and meticulous blending across parcels give the Evenstad Reserve its signature depth, creamy mid-palate and refined, integrated oak profile.

Food & Serving
This Chardonnay is a natural partner for refined dishes where richness and delicacy meet. Think butter-poached lobster, seared scallops, roasted chicken with morel mushrooms, creamy risottos, or veal in a light cream sauce. It also shines with richer fish preparations such as halibut or turbot, and with nutty, semi-firm cheeses like Comté or aged Gouda. Serve at 10–12°C (50–54°F) to showcase its full aromatic range and balance. Younger bottles benefit from 30–45 minutes in a decanter or a large-bowled glass to allow the tropical fruit, florals and hazelnut nuances to fully open.

Producer
Founded in 1990 by Ken and Grace Evenstad, Domaine Serene has become one of Oregon’s true icons, helping to define the Willamette Valley’s potential for world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The estate’s Evenstad Reserve Pinot Noir has been hailed globally, including a #3 ranking in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of 2013, while the 2014 Evenstad Reserve Chardonnay was ranked #2 in the world in the same list—making Domaine Serene the only winery ever to achieve Top 3 positions for both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Accolades from Decanter, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, James Suckling and major international competitions have cemented its reputation as a quality leader. The Evenstads’ acquisition of top Burgundy properties, including Château de la Crée and Domaine Christian Confuron & Fils, further underscores their deep commitment to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay at the highest level, and reinforces the stylistic bridge between Oregon and Burgundy that defines the Domaine Serene philosophy.
